Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response attempts to address the prompt by summarizing information from the graph, but it only partially covers the task. While it identifies some main features and general trends—such as noting that the film club had high participation and mentioning the rise in table tennis—the presentation of data is frequently inaccurate and confused. For instance, the student states that musical performances had 'no participation in 2000 after five years gradual increase up to 15 number in 2020,' which misreads the timeline and figures. Furthermore, the selection of data is disjointed, and the overview at the end is overly simplistic, capturing only the extremes without fully synthesizing the broader picture. To reach a higher level, all reported figures must accurately reflect the visual data, and the key trends need to be presented with greater clarity and precision.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some attempt to organize the response into paragraphs, and transitional phrases such as 'Evidently,' 'In contrst,' and 'However' are employed. However, the overall organization lacks a clear progression, making the essay difficult to follow. The transitions between different activities feel abrupt, and cohesive devices are often inaccurate or misused, such as 'Move in to other parameter,' which sounds unnatural and confusing. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, hindering the flow of ideas. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of the paragraphs is muddled by erratic shifts in focus between different data points. To improve Coherence and Cohesion, the student should ensure a logical sequence of information—such as grouping rising and falling trends together—and use cohesive devices more naturally to guide the reader smoothly through the comparison of data.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, containing noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. There are frequent lexical and word-form errors, such as 'variuos' instead of various, 'Flim' instead of Film, 'contrst' instead of contrast, and 'flatucation' instead of fluctuation. The student also struggles with word choice and collocation, writing phrases like 'largest participants of human' and 'drastic an increment in number of stood at 65.' While there are attempts to use less common vocabulary, inaccuracies in spelling and word choice impede communication in places. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to expand their vocabulary range specifically for describing data and graphs, ensuring correct word forms, precise collocations, and accurate spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple constructions and faulty attempts at complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense inconsistencies, missing or incorrect articles, and poor subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The given bar graph displayed' instead of displays, 'people take part for variuos activities', and 'Martial arts had showed in between flatucation'). Prepositional usage inside grammatical patterns is also weak, such as 'take part for' instead of in. These frequent errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader. To improve in this criterion, the student must work on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring accurate tense usage when reporting past and ongoing data, and reducing the frequency of basic grammatical slips.
