Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, providing an overview of the main trends and making relevant comparisons across the five activities. The key features of the graph are identified, such as the dominance of the film club, the dramatic rise in table tennis, and the sharp decline in amateur dramatics. However, some aspects of the response are slightly under-developed or contain minor data inaccuracies, such as stating that the film club 'returns back to 50 by 2020' when the figure actually rose to 66. This places the task response comfortably at the upper half of the mid-range bands, where the main trends are clearly reported, but minor lapses in data precision prevent a higher rating.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The text presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from an introductory summary to detailed body paragraphs and a concluding overview. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different features of the graph. Cohesive devices are employed to signal contrasts and transitions, such as 'whereas', 'in contrast to that', 'on the other hand', and 'lastly'. However, some referencing is slightly mechanical or repetitive, and a few cohesive links are awkward (e.g., 'Where as, opposite can be seen in amateur dramatics'). These minor faults in cohesion prevent the response from achieving a higher band, though the overall structure remains clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, successfully conveying trends and movements with phrases like 'steady', 'accelerated', 'dropped significantly', and 'sky rocketing'. The writer attempts less common lexical items, though some word choices and collocations are slightly imprecise, such as 'mucical performance was insignificant' instead of negligible or minimal. There are also occasional lexical slips and spelling errors, such as 'mucical' instead of 'musical' and 'sky rocketing'. These errors do not impede communication, allowing the reader to easily follow the report, but the frequency of minor inaccuracies keeps the score at this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and introductory prepositional phrases. There is control over basic verb tenses used to describe past and present data. However, there are noticeable grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'number of participants... were', 'the number of participants remain'), missing articles (e.g., 'in film club'), punctuation slips, and awkward prepositional phrasing. While these errors rarely impede communication, their consistent presence across simple and complex structures is characteristic of this grammatical level.
