Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the main parts of the task by attempting to report key data points and general trends for the five activities shown in the graph. An overview is provided, noting overall fluctuations and the prominent position of the film club and table tennis. However, the development of ideas is limited and uneven. For instance, the description of martial arts is cut short with an incomplete sentence ('The last compund is matial arts where fluctuation can be noticed in different period of time'), and several figures are imprecise or slightly misreported relative to the visual data. To reach a higher band, the response would need to provide a more complete and accurate overview of all main features, ensure all highlighted activities are fully developed with precise data comparison, and avoid trailing off into incomplete sentences.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates some organisation with an introduction, body paragraphs, and an overall summary statement. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression and logical flow between ideas. Paragraphing is attempted, but some paragraphs are disjointed or abruptly structured, such as the single-sentence final paragraph about martial arts. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or somewhat inaccurately, such as 'Meanwhile' and 'wherees', and referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'The last compund'). To improve, the writer should ensure that each paragraph flows logically into the next, use a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices to link relationships between data sets, and maintain a consistent paragraph structure throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to describe general upward and downward trends and fluctuations. However, the range is limited, and there are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form, such as 'acivities' instead of activities, 'particpate' and 'particpant' instead of participate and participant, 'aftre' instead of after, and 'compund' instead of category or activity. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to incorporate a wider range of precise lexical items related to data trends and ensure accurate spelling and word formation throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and overly long, run-on coordinate clauses joined by conjunctions like 'and' or 'while' without proper punctuation. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'the number of participant was zero', 'amateur dramatics particpant were'), missing prepositions, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'come liittle bit down', 'come to around 10 people'). Attempts at complex structures often result in faulty grammar. To progress, the writer must improve control over basic grammatical agreements, use articles and prepositions more accurately, and incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex sentence structures.
