Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially. While you attempt to provide an overview and report some main features of the line chart, the selection of information lacks clarity and contains inaccuracies. For instance, you state that Martial arts remained the activity with the highest number of participants until 2015, whereas the Film club clearly held the highest numbers throughout the period. Furthermore, your description of the data contains imprecise details, such as mentioning 29 participants for Amateur dramatics in 2005 (which was actually around 28) and noting a trend of 10 participants for Musical performances in 2010. Some ideas and trends are under-developed or inaccurately supported by the visual data, preventing a fully clear and accurate summary of the provided graph.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation in your response, but it lacks a clear overall progression. You attempt to use paragraphing, splitting your introduction, overview, and body details, but the logical flow between sentences and paragraphs is frequently disrupted. The mechanical and abrupt transition between sentences, such as separating the Y-axis description into its own fragment ('While the Y axis showcases the number of participants.'), weakens the cohesion of your text. Additionally, referencing and cohesive devices are inadequate or overused, making the structure feel disjointed. To reach a higher band, you need to ensure a smoother, logical progression of ideas with appropriate cohesive devices linking your sentences and paragraphs naturally.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary range is adequate for the task, though it is somewhat limited. You successfully use appropriate terms related to the graph, such as 'number of participants', 'fluctuated', and 'decreased', but you also make spelling and word-choice errors, such as writing 'activites' instead of 'activities'. You attempt less common vocabulary items like 'surprisingly trend', but this leads to inaccuracies in word form and collocation. Fortunately, these errors do not heavily impede communication. To improve your lexical score, aim to use a wider variety of precise vocabulary and synonyms to describe trends and changes without making spelling or word-choice slips.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You display a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple forms and basic complex sentences. When you attempt more complex structures, they are often faulty or punctuated incorrectly, such as missing periods or running sentences together ('...consistent drop until 2020The number of participants...'). There are frequent errors in grammar, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'The highest number of participants in an activity were close to 70') and missing articles or prepositions. These errors require some effort from the reader to parse your meaning. To achieve a higher band, you should incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex sentences and pay closer attention to punctuation and grammatical accuracy.
