Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response covers the main activity categories and attempts to highlight key trends, such as the significant growth in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the data presented contains inaccuracies or vague descriptions, such as stating that table tennis goes from about 20 to 30 participants when it actually started around 16. Furthermore, the overview is repetitive, restating the prompt introduction multiple times rather than providing a concise summary of the overall trends. The detail for several activities remains limited and under-developed, meaning the task is addressed only partially.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organization with an introductory and a concluding body paragraph style, but the progression of information lacks clarity. The response suffers from heavy repetition, particularly in the introduction and overview where the prompt is restated unnecessarily. Cohesive devices are used in a mechanical and repetitive manner, such as the frequent reliance on 'over the time period' and 'while on the other hand'. Paragraphing is also poorly managed, as the entire body of the response is clumped together into long, dense blocks without logical separation between the overview features and the specific data details.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, with frequent spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'informatiob', 'particpants', 'takng', 'iin', 'differnet', 'perfomances', and 'tiime'. Word choices are often repetitive, with basic phrasing like 'number of participants' and 'gradual increase' reused excessively. While the student attempts some functional vocabulary related to trends, such as 'significant gain' and 'significant drop', the numerous spelling and word-form inaccuracies cause noticeable strain and difficulty for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammatical range is quite limited, relying heavily on simple or over-extended run-on sentences connected by conjunctions like 'and' rather than varied complex structures. There are frequent errors in basic grammar, including missing or incorrect articles ('in the social center' instead of 'at a social centre'), preposition usage ('taking part iin'), and punctuation errors like missing capitalization and full stops (e.g., starting sentences with lowercase 'we can see'). These frequent errors and faulty complex structures disrupt the flow and cause difficulty in places.
