Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt by selecting some data from the graph, such as mentioning table tennis and amateur dramatics trends. However, the information is only partially presented and contains several inaccuracies when compared to the visual data. For instance, the writer states that amateur dramatics went from '27 to 5' and musical performances grew 'from 0 to 17', which reflects a partial and somewhat confused reporting of the key features. An overview is largely missing, and the development of the ideas is limited. To move to a higher band, the response needs to present a clearer overall picture of the main trends without getting bogged down in inaccurate or repetitive numerical details, ensuring all key features are accurately reported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text shows some basic organisation, dividing the thoughts into a loose introductory sentence and subsequent body paragraphs. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow is disrupted by abrupt shifts between ideas. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or used incorrectly, such as the awkward transition 'conversely, amateur dramatics slumped' and repetitive phrasing like 'this shows this shows'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within the paragraphs is weak, making the progression difficult to follow at times. To improve, the writer needs to ensure that sentences flow logically from one to the next using appropriate and accurate cohesive devices, and structure paragraphs around clear thematic groupings.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. While there are some attempts to use less common or topic-specific items—such as 'rocketed', 'slumped', and 'fluctuating'—there are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form. Examples include spelling errors like 'flim' instead of film and 'dramatucs' instead of dramatics, as well as lexical inaccuracies such as 'dripped' (intended to mean dropped) and 'exhibits instability in participants'. These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the student should expand their range of vocabulary, ensure correct word forms and spelling, and use precise collocations to describe statistical trends.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response exhibits a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic subject-verb patterns. Attempts at more complex structures or longer clauses are frequently faulty, leading to missing punctuation, awkward phrasing, and grammatical errors. Examples include 'Similar trends is seen for flim club' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'for the period of two decades' missing an article. Frequent errors in prepositions and verb forms are present throughout the text, which can cause some difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer should focus on diversifying sentence structures while mastering basic grammatical rules such as subject-verb agreement, accurate verb tenses, and appropriate article usage.
