Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by selecting and reporting the main features of the graph, identifying the highest category and noting key trends such as the growth in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, some aspects are under-developed or contain minor inaccuracies in data reporting, such as the confusion over the year range in the introduction ("between 2000 and 2002" instead of 2020) and slightly imprecise readings of certain figures like the musical performers data. While an overview is present, the lack of full precision and some underdeveloped detail mean the response meets the requirements for this level rather than a higher one.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The report has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, overview paragraph, and body details. Information is generally organized logically by categories and time periods. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, seen in awkward transitions like "Moving further toward remaining information" and repetitive sentence openings. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and paragraphing could be managed more smoothly to ensure a better flow of information from one point to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate main trends using words like "fluctuated", "upsurge", and "steady growth". However, there are noticeable lexical errors in word choice, form, and spelling, such as "candidates" instead of "participants", "ws", "Martial art", "continously", "fall", "repsented", "form", "nill", and "aditionall". These errors reflect an attempt to use less common vocabulary with some inaccuracy, though they do not seriously impede overall communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as "Overall, it can be seen clearly that..." and relative or comparative structures. However, there are frequent errors in grammar, articles, plurals, and prepositions within grammatical patterns, including "numbers of candidates" (article/plural issues), "Film club participant was highest in numbers", "the again it reched", and missing articles before singular countable nouns like "social centre". Punctuation errors also occur, such as spaces before commas. These errors require some effort to decode but rarely completely obscure the meaning.
