Student answer (Band 6.0)
The line graph illustartes the number of people who take part in a variety of activities at a social centre in Melbourne city of Australia from 2000 to 2020, over a period of 5 years.
Overall, it can be clearly seen that there ia a huge difference in the number of participants taking part in those five activities. Film club activity and Martial arts activity both fluctuated every year and remained almost at the same number of its participants with a slight increase where as Table tennis and Musical performances escalated gradually after 2010. Amateur dramatics behaved very differently and after slight increase it smoothly went down in the end.
On the one hand, Film club and Martial arts activities neither increased nor decreased but fluctuate in the duration of five years. In 2000, Film club activities consists of 65 participants and Martial arts took aproximately 38 people in the activity. In 2005, participants of Martial arts decreased, almost 32 people were left in the activity and Film club decreased 61 participants remained then it further went down and 60 people were left in 2010. Participants of Martial arts increaded in that year and almost 40 people were the part of the activity. In 2015 Film club went up and became same as it was in the first year. Martial arts' memebers went down again in that year and reached the same level as it was in the first year. Both then slightly increased in 2020.
On the other hand, Table tennis went up in from 2000 then in 2005 it declined to 20 participants. In 2010 it remained the same then increased and almost 38 people took part in that activity in 2015. Almost 20 more participants were added in this activity. Musicl perfomacnce started in 2005 with zero participants and in 2010 eleven people joined the activity. In 2015 only 8 more people were added. In 2020 total participants were 20.
The only activity in which number of participants decreased was Amatteur dramatics. At the beginning in 2000 twenty seven people started the activity. In 2005 only one member increased. In 2010, eight members left the activity. In 2015 it further declined to 18 members. In 2020 onli nine participants were left in Amatteur dramatics.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task by reporting on all five activities and selecting key features and trends across the twenty-year period. An overview is provided at the beginning, noting the general differences among the categories. However, while the main features are identified, some of the specific data points reported in the body paragraphs lack precision or contain minor inaccuracies when compared against the visual data, indicating a tendency to generalise or under-develop certain details. To reach a higher band, the response would need to ensure that every major trend and comparative statement is fully supported by accurate data referencing without conflicting figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to group information logically into distinct paragraphs, separating categories into 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand'. There is a discernible progression of ideas from the introduction through the main trends. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, with occasional referencing issues and transitions that do not always flow smoothly. Paragraphing is used adequately to structure the response, but to move up to a higher band, the logical relationships between sentences and paragraphs must be managed with greater flexibility and precision.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, successfully communicating the main trends through words like 'fluctuated', 'escalated', 'declined', and 'gradually'. The writer attempts less common lexical items, but this results in some word-choice and word-form inaccuracies, such as 'illustartes', 'Musicl perfomacnce', and 'Amatteur dramatics', alongside occasional awkward collocations. Spelling errors also occur intermittently. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate a more precise and flexible control of vocabulary, using less common items with greater awareness of style and collocation while eliminating basic spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as subordinate clauses and comparative expressions. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including tense inconsistencies, missing prepositions, and article errors (for example, 'ia a huge difference', 'went up in from 2000', and subject-verb agreement issues like 'Film club activities consists'). Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication. To reach a higher band, the writer would need to produce more frequent error-free sentences and demonstrate superior control over complex grammatical structures and punctuation.
