Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by presenting an overview and reporting the main trends and data points from the graph. The overview clearly highlights the main features, such as the rise in table tennis and the stability of martial arts. However, some areas are developed more fully than others; for example, the description of film club and amateur dramatics contains slight inaccuracies or vague expressions, such as stating it decreased to almost 5 participants when the grid shows 6. Furthermore, some data points are slightly misreported, such as musical performances starting from zero in 2000 rather than fifteen in 2010. These minor lapses place the response in the mid-range for this criterion, as the general trends are captured but some supporting details lack complete accuracy and precise development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a clear overall progression and logical organization. The information is divided into sensible paragraphs, moving from an introduction and overview to detailed body paragraphs about specific activities. Cohesive devices such as 'overall', 'meanwhile', 'on closer observation', and 'additionally' are used to structure the text, though referencing and transitional phrases can occasionally feel somewhat mechanical. Paragraphing is managed sufficiently, and each section has a clear focus. To reach a higher band, the writer would need to employ a wider and more seamless variety of cohesive links, ensuring that transitions between sentences and ideas flow even more naturally without relying on standard formulas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'undergo', 'fluctuated', and 'participation'. However, there are notable lexical and spelling errors throughout the essay, including 'flim' instead of 'film', 'partcipated' instead of 'participated', 'tabble' instead of 'table', and 'martia' instead of 'martial'. Furthermore, word choices such as 'participation amateur dramatics is declined' show grammatical and lexical inaccuracies in collocation and word form. While these vocabulary and spelling errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to the current level because precision and control are lacking in several instances.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and time-phrased clauses with varying degrees of success. There are some grammar errors in verb tenses, articles, and prepositions, such as 'table tennis become most popular', 'participation in table tennis showed relatively increased', and 'rose approximately 50 partcipants'. Despite these errors, meaning is generally clear and communication is rarely impeded. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate greater control over complex sentence structures and eliminate frequent minor slips in verb agreement and prepositional use, ensuring a higher proportion of completely error-free sentences.
