Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response makes an attempt to address the prompt by reporting on the activities at the social centre, but the coverage is only partial. While some main features are mentioned, such as the film club remaining popular and amateur dramatics declining, the data is frequently inaccurate or awkwardly described (e.g., claiming the film club had 60 to 70 members starting in 2000 when the graph shows around 64, or stating musical performances started at 0 in 2005 when the axis shows 0 until 2010). Furthermore, the overview section is poorly structured and lacks clarity, failing to provide a clear summary of the overall trends. Ideas are limited and under-developed, with simplistic descriptions of the data points rather than meaningful comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some organisation with a distinct introductory paragraph, a labelled overview section, and subsequent body paragraphs for each activity. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow is disrupted by disjointed sentences and confusing sequencing. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, with repetitive structures such as 'was started' and 'member join' appearing constantly. Paragraphing is attempted, but the inclusion of an 'OVERVIEW' label and the fragmented layout of the body sentences prevent the text from presenting a coherent whole. Referencing is also weak, making it difficult for the reader to follow which year or data point is being discussed.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is very limited and repetitive, repeatedly relying on basic terms such as 'members', 'activity', 'value', 'quantity', and 'started'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'member of quantity', 'sharply down', and 'value quantity sharply join', which cause difficulty for the reader and impede clear communication. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are unsuccessful due to incorrect word forms and poor word choice. Spelling is generally acceptable for basic words, but the overall lexical range falls short of what is required for a more competent performance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response features a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on basic, repetitive clauses. Attempts at more complex sentences are frequently faulty, resulting in ungrammatical constructions such as 'when was started the member is 25 member join' and 'The other martial arts, table tennis and musical performances was the number of participants increasing, decreasing similarity.' There are frequent errors in verb forms, tense usage, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions (e.g., 'activity at Melbourne 2000 to 2020'). These persistent errors can cause considerable difficulty and confusion for the reader.
