Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response falls below the minimum word count of 150 words, stopping at 140 words, and 21 words were copied directly from the prompt. While the student attempts to provide an overview and report some key features of the activities, the task is only partially addressed. The overview lacks clarity, claiming the graph consists of "5 main stage" which does not accurately summarise the visual data. Key features are underdeveloped, and some statements are inaccurate or difficult to follow, such as the claim about musical performances or the vague description of trends. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to ensure all parts of the prompt are fully met with an extended, well-supported overview and accurate reporting of data without lifting sentences directly from the question.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text shows some basic organisation, but there is no clear overall progression. The response is broken into very short, disjointed sentences and paragraphs that lack logical sequencing. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or repetitive, making the text feel mechanical. For instance, transitional phrases like "Initally", "Morever", and "Furthermore" are used awkwardly, and referencing between sentences is often unclear (e.g., "however musical performances participated in 2005"). Paragraphing is also insufficient and does not logically separate the introduction, overview, and body details. To improve, the writer must focus on structuring ideas into logical paragraphs and using a wider, more accurate range of cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through the response.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student relies on basic, repetitive terms and makes noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form that occasionally cause confusion for the reader. Examples include spelling errors like "Initally" and "Morever", as well as inaccurate lexical choices such as "activites is film culb 2000 to till" and "amateur dramatics is decrese day by day". There are frequent awkward collocations and incorrect word forms, such as using verbs where nouns are needed. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to incorporate a wider and more precise range of vocabulary related to data trends and paraphrase the prompt effectively rather than relying on basic or misspelled words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences, and attempts at more complex structures are frequently faulty. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement, tense usage, missing articles, and incorrect prepositions. Examples include "people participates", "musical performances participated in 2005" (using the wrong voice/verb for when an activity started), and "it just aroud 10 numbers of participants". These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and impede clear communication. To improve, the writer needs to develop better control over basic sentence construction, ensure correct verb tenses for describing past data, and reduce the frequency of grammatical slips.
