Overall, film club was the most popular choice throughtout the years and had the highest number of participants all the years. Enrollments in table tennis increased from 2010 and peaked in 2020. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting an overview and detailing the main features of the chart. The student selects appropriate data points, such as the film club remaining the most popular and table tennis experiencing a significant rise, while also noting the zero participants for musical performances in the early years. However, some areas are slightly under-developed; for instance, the description of martial arts as having a 'continued trend' is a bit vague, and the text ends abruptly mid-sentence at the very end. The overview captures the main trends adequately, but greater precision in extending the comparisons between the fluctuating and rising activities would elevate the task response to the next level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introductory paragraph and an initial overview, followed by individual body paragraphs for each activity. However, progression is sometimes hindered by mechanical paragraphing and isolated sentences, such as the very brief third and fourth paragraphs and the unfinished concluding sentence. Cohesive devices are used, but referencing is occasionally repetitive or formulaic. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to group related data more logically into well-developed paragraphs and ensure smoother transitions between sentences and ideas, avoiding abrupt, single-sentence paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate information about trends reasonably well. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary and phraseology, such as 'peaked in 2020', 'positive surge', and 'plateaued'. However, there are several spelling errors and word-choice inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'Austrailia', 'throughtout', 'amatuer', 'nill', and 'prefered'. While these occasional errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the lexical score from rising further. Incorporating more precise academic collocations and checking spelling carefully will improve this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, attempting various time clauses and comparative forms. There are, however, some grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'getting the least participants' instead of 'attracting the fewest participants', and 'continued to increased' instead of 'continued to increase'. Punctuation and verb tense consistency also show minor lapses. These errors rarely impede communication, but they persist throughout the response. A higher band would require a wider variety of error-free complex sentences and more consistent control over verb forms and prepositional phrases.
