Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the prompt by summarising the main features of the line graph, but it only partially covers the requirements. While you correctly identify the film club as having high participation and point out changes in table tennis and amateur dramatics, the overall summary in the second paragraph contains inaccuracies, stating that participation in the film club 'slightly increased every year' when it actually fluctuated. Furthermore, some of the specific figures reported in the body paragraphs, such as stating that the film club started at 65 or that table tennis reached 55 in 2020, deviate from the visual data. The overview is underdeveloped, and key features are not consistently supported with accurate data, which limits the effectiveness of your response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates some organisation with an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and the paragraphing is somewhat awkward. For instance, the second body paragraph awkwardly mixes details about the film club and martial arts. Cohesive devices are used, but they are sometimes mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'At the beginning of the period', 'It then', and 'Afterthat'. Referencing and linking between sentences occasionally become unclear, making the logical flow disjointed. To achieve a higher band, you need to ensure that every paragraph has a clear thematic focus, that cohesive devices are used more naturally to connect ideas smoothly, and that the progression from the overview to specific details follows a logical structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary range is limited but minimally adequate for the task. You attempt some less common vocabulary, such as 'participation figure' and 'fluctuation', but these are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, form, and spelling, such as 'particiants', 'Afterthat', and awkward phrasing like 'participation rate for Martial arts was approximately 35 players'. Spelling and word-choice errors occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve your lexical score, you should focus on using more precise terms for visual data trends (e.g., verbs like 'fluctuated', 'declined', or 'surged') and ensure correct word forms and spelling throughout your response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex sentences, which are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense inconsistencies and subject-verb agreement issues, such as 'film club had highest number', 'participation figure... was stood at', 'participation rate... were fell', and 'the participation figure were increased'. Punctuation and article use also show frequent errors that can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate better control over basic and complex grammatical structures, ensuring accurate verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions.
