Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response makes an attempt to address the prompt, but it fails to provide a clear overview of the main trends and relies heavily on mechanical, point-by-point listing of data points. Additionally, the student misinterprets the scale and units, frequently mislabeling absolute numbers of participants as percentages (e.g., writing "60 percent" instead of 60 participants). The information reported is often imprecise, and the description cuts off abruptly at the end, leaving the final trend incomplete. To improve towards higher bands, the response needs to select and highlight key overall trends and make accurate comparisons rather than attempting to list individual figures mechanically.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The organization of the text is somewhat disjointed. While there is an attempt to group information by activity into separate paragraphs, the progression of ideas lacks clarity. Cohesive devices are used very mechanically or are absent, leading to abrupt transitions between sentences and ideas (for example, sentences often begin in a repetitive, disjointed manner such as "In 2005 it reaches... In 2010 it reaches..."). Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of the paragraphs does not guide the reader smoothly through the data. To improve cohesion, the student should use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that relationships between different data points are clearly signalled.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Vocabulary usage is basic, repetitive, and heavily relies on words directly lifted from the prompt. The student attempts to use some vocabulary related to trends (e.g., "increases", "downfall", "ups and down"), but these are often applied inaccurately or combined with inappropriate measurement units, such as persistently misusing the word "percent" instead of participants. There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as "was start start from", which occasionally strain comprehension. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to incorporate a more varied and precise range of lexical items specific to graphical data, avoiding repetition and ensuring accurate word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical structures used are very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with frequent structural errors. There are notable issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., "The film club... was", "it remains", "it reaches"), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles or prepositions. Attempts at more complex sentence forms are rare and generally faulty. Errors occur with high frequency throughout the response and occasionally distort the intended meaning, causing some difficulty for the reader. To improve, the student must work on basic sentence construction, consistent verb tenses when describing past data, and ensuring correct agreement between subjects and verbs.
