Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all parts of the task by selecting and reporting the main features of the line graph, providing an overall summary and noting key trends. For example, the student correctly highlights the dramatic growth in table tennis and musical performances alongside the sharp decline in amateur dramatics. While the main features are clearly identified, some details are slightly under-developed or contain minor inaccuracies compared to the source data, such as stating that musical performances accounted for 15 participants in 2014 when the graph shows 2015, and minor numerical slips like 'ar 55 participants ib 2020'. Nevertheless, the overall response provides a clear overview and fulfills the basic requirements of Academic Task 1, reflecting a solid performance at this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The report displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the information logically into an introduction, an overview paragraph, and two body paragraphs focusing on contrasting trends. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader through the data, such as 'Overall', 'In 2000', and 'Conversely'. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is occasionally faulty, leading to minor disruptions in the flow of information. For instance, paragraphing and referencing between the specific activities could be smoother to fully achieve a higher band. Overall, the organization is logical and easy to follow, meeting the expectations for a clear, structured layout.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully attempting less common items related to trends and data reporting, such as 'fell sharply', 'remain relatively unchanged', and 'gradual increase'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text that reflect limitations in lexical control. Examples include 'noticible' instead of noticeable, 'amature' and 'armature' instead of amateur, 'participents' instead of participants, and 'untill' instead of until. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they prevent the writer from achieving a higher score due to recurring inaccuracies in word form and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as subordinate clauses and time phrases like 'while number of amature dramatics fell sharply'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('the participants number', 'number of film club') and minor prepositional or numerical errors ('reaching the peak ar 55', 'in 2014'). However, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to easily grasp the intended meaning. To reach the next level, the student needs to demonstrate better control over article usage and produce a higher frequency of error-free complex sentences.
