Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially and falls short of the minimum length requirement, containing 139 words instead of the required 150. While the writer attempts to provide an overview and mentions several activities such as the film club, musical performances, and table tennis, the selection of information lacks balance. Key trends are reported with limited detail, and some descriptions are inaccurate or confusing, such as the statement that participant numbers for martial arts fluctuated while the data shows a relatively stable pattern. Furthermore, there is no clear reporting of final figures for 2020 for most categories, which limits the overall completeness of the summary.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response shows some basic organization by dividing the text into an introduction and body paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes inaccurately, such as the abrupt transitions using 'Whereas' and 'Moreover' which do not logically link the data points that follow. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, and paragraphing is underdeveloped due to the short overall length of the essay. To improve, the writer needs to group related data more logically and use cohesive ties more naturally to guide the reader through the comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, with noticeable errors in word choice and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples of lexical errors include misspelling words like 'flim' instead of film, 'reamin' instead of remain, 'comparetively', and 'continous' instead of continuous. Word choices are also repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'numbers of players' rather than varying expressions such as 'participants' or 'attendees'. Attempts at less common vocabulary are sparse and frequently marred by inaccuracies, indicating a need for greater precision and care with spelling and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors when attempting complex forms. There are noticeable mistakes in subject-verb agreement and prepositions, such as 'numbers of players who participated in numerous activities... at one community centre in Melbourne and Australia for the year 2000 to 2020' instead of 'in'. Other errors include awkward phrasing like 'the number of participants in musical performances were least' where singular/plural agreement is incorrect ('was least'). Punctuation and article usage also show frequent errors that can cause hesitation for the reader.
