Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response only partially addresses the prompt because it falls significantly short of the 150-word minimum, stopping abruptly at 108 words. While you attempt to provide an overview and mention several trends such as the rise in Table Tennis and the decline in Amateur Dramatics, the under-length nature of the response means that key features are not fully extended or developed. Data points are occasionally vague or imprecise, such as referring to 'around 15%' when the chart measures absolute participant numbers rather than percentages. To reach a higher level, you must write at least 150 words and ensure all major trends are fully supported with accurate figures from the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organization with an introductory sentence and an overall summary paragraph, but the lack of a proper concluding body paragraph leads to a weak overall progression and an abrupt cut-off in the text. Cohesive devices are used in a somewhat repetitive or mechanical manner, such as 'whereas' and 'while'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the formatting breaks down entirely towards the end with loose fragments like 'ont'. To improve cohesion and logical flow, ideas must be structured into clear paragraphs with a wider range of appropriate transition signals, ensuring the essay feels complete rather than unfinished.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, featuring basic terms related to charts and trends like 'increased substantially', 'trend', and 'peak'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, including spelling mistakes such as 'Melbourn' for Melbourne and 'flactuation' for fluctuation. Word choice is also occasionally inaccurate, for instance using percentages ('15%') to describe absolute numbers of participants, and non-standard phrasing like 'musical performance with a upward trend started just few years later'. To achieve a higher score, you need to use a wider range of precise vocabulary and collocations related to data trends while eliminating spelling and word-choice errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic compound forms. When you attempt more complex constructions, errors become frequent and can cause some difficulty for the reader, such as the awkward grammatical pattern in 'Regarding Table tennis it started around 15% in 2000 to surged up dramatically'. There are also frequent issues with missing articles, prepositions, and verb tense consistency, for example 'amateur dramatics droped considerably'. To improve your grammar score, you need to practice forming accurate complex sentences and carefully check your work for basic tense and agreement errors.
