Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially. While the student attempts to summarise the overall graph and highlights a few key features such as the highest and lowest numbers in 2020, the content is quite limited and lacks sufficient support. There is an over-reliance on listing individual data points rather than synthesising meaningful comparisons across the five activities. Furthermore, some statements are vague or under-developed, such as stating that activities experienced 'up and downs' without fully detailing the trends of categories like martial arts or the film club. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to provide a more thorough overview and develop comparisons fully, ensuring all major trends are adequately covered.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation in the response, but it lacks a clear overall progression. The essay opens with an introduction, attempts body paragraphs using metalinguistic markers like 'First of all' and 'Secondly', and concludes with an overall summary. However, the sequencing of ideas feels disjointed and mechanical rather than flowing logically from one point to the next. Cohesive devices are often inadequate or awkwardly used, such as 'Moreover, the film club slight fall in year 2010', which disrupts the flow of information. Paragraphing is attempted, but individual paragraphs lack internal cohesion. To improve, the student should ensure smoother transitions between sentences and organise data logically into clear trends rather than isolated observations.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'timelaps', 'drastic fall', and 'incresement', but these attempts are frequently inaccurate in terms of word formation or collocation. For instance, 'incresement' is a non-standard form of increase, and phrases like 'the amateur dramatics had the fall drastically' demonstrate awkward phrasing and lexical control. Spelling and word choice errors are noticeable throughout the text, though they generally do not completely impede communication. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their vocabulary range and use lexical items with greater precision and correct word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple or awkwardly constructed complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the number of participants are from'), missing articles ('at social centre'), and incorrect prepositional use. Attempts at complex clauses often result in fragments or ungrammatical syntax, such as 'moreover, the film club slight fall in year 2010', which lacks a main verb. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and indicate a need for better control over basic and complex grammatical structures alike.
