Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features and making relevant comparisons across the given period, satisfying the requirements of the lower band while showing elements of the higher band. You provide an overview of the key trends, noting that the film club remained popular while musical performance started later as the lowest activity. However, some parts of your response are slightly inaccurate or under-developed compared to the visual data. For instance, you state that the film club 'remained on the top from the start until the end', which is mostly accurate, but your description of table tennis misses the precise starting and ending figures, describing it somewhat vaguely as 'between 10 to 20 number of participants'. Additionally, claiming that martial arts remained at the exact same number over twenty years overlooks minor fluctuations shown in the data. To reach the higher band, you should ensure that all key features and data points are reported with greater precision and full development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

Your response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear division into paragraphs, including an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for individual activities. This satisfies the requirements of the lower band while showing part of the next. You use basic cohesive devices to guide the reader through the data, such as 'Overall', 'In more detail', 'Furthermore', and 'On the other hand'. However, cohesion can sometimes feel mechanical or slightly repetitive, and referencing between sentences is not always completely smooth. For example, the transition between discussing table tennis and amateur dramatics relies on standard connectors rather than fully integrated logical links. To achieve a higher band, you need to ensure that information and ideas flow seamlessly from one sentence to the next without relying on formulaic transition words, making the progression of information completely natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'volatile', 'substantial growth', and 'rebounded strongly'. This meets the criteria for the lower band, while also touching upon features of the band above. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation that prevent a higher score. For example, writing 'information on the number of participants for variety of activities' lacks an article before 'variety', and describing the film club as having 'moderate trend' is unnatural. You also write 'gradual raise' instead of 'gradual rise', and refer to a 'number of participants' repeatedly rather than varying your phrasing. Your spelling is generally accurate, and these lexical errors do not impede communication. To improve your vocabulary score, focus on precise word forms, natural collocations, and avoiding repetitive phrasing when discussing statistical data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

Your response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over basic structures and attempting more complex clauses. This fully satisfies the lower band descriptor. However, there are noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation that place this response firmly below the higher band. You make errors with prepositions and articles, such as writing 'in the duration 2000 to 2020' instead of 'over the period from 2000 to 2020', and omitting the article in 'for variety of activities'. There are also issues with noun phrase construction, such as 'between 10 to 20 number of participants', which is grammatically awkward. While these errors rarely impede communication, their persistent presence across different sentence types prevents you from achieving a higher band. To improve your grammar, pay close attention to prepositions of time, article usage, and the accurate construction of numerical descriptions.
