Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully covers all parts of the task by addressing the main features and making relevant comparisons across the five activities shown in the graph. An overview is provided, highlighting key general trends such as the significant rise in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, some aspects of the task are addressed more fully than others; for instance, certain data points are slightly inaccurate, such as stating that table tennis rose from 25 in 2000 to 55 in 2020, whereas the graph shows approximately 16 and 54 respectively. While the main features are selected and reported, some details remain under-developed or imprecise, placing this response securely at the target band for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at logical progression. Information is divided into an introduction, an overview paragraph, and body paragraphs that group related activities together. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader, such as 'Overall', 'Initiating with', and 'Moving towards', which demonstrates features of higher bands. However, some referencing and cohesion are occasionally mechanical or slightly faulty, such as the awkward transition 'Initiating with the table tennis'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to structure the ideas, contributing to a smooth overall flow that meets the requirements for a half-band above the core criteria.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'gigantic shift', 'fluctuations', and 'dramatic decline'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, word form, and collocation, such as 'highest steep' instead of 'sharpest increase' or 'steepest rise', and 'occured' which involves a minor spelling slip. Despite these lapses, the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main ideas clearly without impeding the reader, aligning with the expected standard for this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and participial phrases such as 'activities that included...' and 'musical performances were introduced in 2005, attracted participants gradually'. There are some grammatical errors and awkward structures present, such as 'the number of participants in film and martial arts clubs, both remained same same at the start and end' which contains a repetition and an agreement issue, as well as missing articles. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication, and the sentence structures remain generally understandable throughout the text.
