Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by providing an overview with main trends and selecting key data points to report. The writer notes the significant upward trend for table tennis and the dramatic decline in amateur dramatics, as well as outlining the general movements for film club, martial arts, and musical performances. However, some aspects of the response are more fully developed than others, and a few specific figures contain minor inaccuracies compared to the visual data, such as stating that amateur dramatics rose to 30 in 2005 when the graph shows it was closer to 28, or stating the starting point for table tennis was 15 rather than 16. These minor under-developments and slight data inaccuracies place the response securely at this level, as it covers the main features but lacks the precise extension required for higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the information logically, beginning with an introduction and overview paragraph followed by body paragraphs detailing the categories. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as "Looking from an overall perspective", "To begin with", and "In contrast". However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, and referencing is not always completely clear. For instance, transitional phrases like "And then countinously increase" and awkward sentence linking create abrupt transitions between ideas. Paragraphing is present, but the internal logical progression within paragraphs occasionally stumbles, particularly in how individual data points are tied together. These manageable cohesion issues reflect the characteristics of this level, where the text is generally unified and easy to follow despite mechanical elements.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as "significantly increased", "dramatically decline", and "fluctuating condition". However, there are noticeable word choice, word form, and spelling errors throughout the text that prevent it from reaching a higher band. Examples include spelling errors like "berween" and "countinously", and awkward word forms or collocations such as "the participant in amateur dramatics had dramatically decline", "slighting rose", and "were stand on 15". Additionally, expressions like "drop and join" are imprecise descriptions of data movement. These errors occur regularly but do not impede overall communication, allowing the reader to understand the intended meaning despite the lexical inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use relative clauses and contrasting structures. There are several grammatical errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions within grammatical patterns. Examples include tense inconsistencies and errors such as "the number of members were slighting rose", "the members starts joining club", and "thats remained constant in 2005". Punctuation is also occasionally unreliable, as seen in missing commas after introductory phrases or misplaced punctuation. While these errors occur frequently, they rarely impede communication completely, as the core message of the data trends usually remains clear through the context.
