Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The response successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features, selecting appropriate data points, and making relevant comparisons across the five categories. The overview clearly highlights the overall trends, such as the sustained popularity of the Film club and the dramatic growth in Table tennis. Key details, such as the peak of the Film club at nearly 67 participants and the decline of Amateur dramatics down to under 10, are accurately cited from the visual data. The ideas are well extended and supported, though a slight tendency to generalise or minor variations in precise figures do not detract from the clear overview. The response meets the threshold for a solid performance in this criterion, demonstrating a strong grasp of reporting visual information effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response maintains a clear logical organisation and progression throughout, moving smoothly from the introductory overview to specific details about the categories. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to group related ideas. Cohesive devices are generally well managed, with phrases like 'In contrast', 'Regarding the other activities', and 'Meanwhile' guiding the reader through the data comparisons. However, a few cohesive links feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, and referencing could occasionally be tighter to achieve a fully seamless flow. This sits comfortably in the middle band, reflecting a coherent overall arrangement that presents information logically.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The response demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and descriptive verbs and nouns such as 'significant growth', 'steady decline', 'surged dramatically', and 'consistent presence'. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors that prevent a higher score, including 'avtivities', 'perticipation', 'recoverinng', 'participents', 'actvities', and 'populer'. Furthermore, phrases like 'growth in perticipation' and 'upward trends' contain minor collocation or pluralisation slips. Despite these errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main points clearly, and meaning is never impeded.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

The response shows a good mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating subordinating clauses such as 'While Table tennis and Musical performances saw significant growth...' and participial phrases effectively. There is a good control of past tense forms required for historical data spanning 2000 to 2020. However, some grammatical errors persist, such as the preposition error in 'Participation on Martial arts' (instead of 'in'), missing words like 'first five' (years), and punctuation slips. These errors occur amidst many error-free sentences and do not impede communication, placing the grammatical performance firmly within this band.
