Student answer (Band 5.5)
The line graph illustrates the data for the numbers of participants participated in different activities at one social centre located in Melbourne, Australia for 20 years. The x-Axis represents year and Y-Axis represents number of participants.
Overall, five activities were included. As per the line graph film club and table tennis was on top and below Martial arts, Amateur dramatics, and Musical performamces were ranked in the period of 2000 to 2020 year.
The Film club was always on top throught the year from 2000 to 2020 except 2010 where it was slightly lower. In 2000 the table tennis was a bit lower than film club, Martial arts, Amateure dramatics activities but in 2015 it rised dramatically. For Martial arts a steady zig zag pattern can be observed. The Amateure dramatics it was rising slightly till 2005 but from 2005 it started falling. For Musical performances it was not started from 2000 but from 2005 and then it kept gradually increasing.
In conclusion, even though for a little amount of time the film club was fell however it was on top leavel than other activities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the five activities and describe several genuine trends, including film club’s consistently high participation, the rise in table tennis, the decline in amateur dramatics, and the gradual growth of musical performances. However, the overview is unclear: saying film club and table tennis were “on top” does not accurately summarise their changing positions, since table tennis began much lower and only rose sharply later. Some details are also inaccurate or imprecise: film club did not fall in 2010; it dipped slightly before recovering, and musical performances began in 2010, not 2005. The response reports few figures and gives limited comparisons between series. A clearer overview and accurate key values would make the main features more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to an overview, then to descriptions of individual activities and a concluding sentence. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression is weakened by the unclear overview and by presenting trends one after another without consistently comparing them. Phrases such as “For Martial arts” and “The Amateure dramatics” create abrupt transitions, while “In conclusion” repeats the earlier claim about film club rather than adding a useful summary. Use a concise overview that groups the strongest and declining activities, then organise the details into meaningful comparisons. More precise linking and reference between sentences would help the report read as a connected account rather than a list.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing a line graph, including “steady zig zag pattern,” “rising slightly,” “falling,” and “gradually increasing.” These choices communicate the general direction of several trends. However, the range is limited and some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “was on top,” “it rised dramatically,” and “was fell.” There are also spelling errors, including “throught,” “Amateure,” and “performamces,” which reduce the accuracy of the report. Aim for precise trend language and natural collocations, for example, “remained the highest,” “rose sharply,” and “declined steadily.” Check spelling carefully, especially for the activity names, and avoid repeating broad descriptions when exact comparisons are available.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including “The Amateure dramatics it was rising slightly till 2005 but from 2005 it started falling.” However, sentence structures are often faulty, and errors in verb forms and agreement occur throughout. Examples include “the numbers of participants participated,” “film club and table tennis was,” “it rised,” and “the film club was fell.” These errors sometimes make the intended meaning harder to follow. Articles and sentence construction also need attention, as in “For Martial arts a steady zig zag pattern can be observed.” Practise forming accurate past-tense descriptions and checking subject–verb agreement. Short, controlled sentences are a useful starting point; then combine them with accurate clauses to show a wider range.
