Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You provide a clear overview of the main patterns: table tennis rises strongly, amateur dramatics falls, musical performances grow, and film club and martial arts fluctuate. You also identify the film club as the largest activity throughout, which is supported by the graph. Most figures are close to the chart, but a few details are inaccurate: table tennis reaches about 54, rather than 50, in 2020; musical performances begin at zero in 2000, not with participants joining in 2005; and martial arts falls to about 34 in 2015 before returning to 36, rather than remaining stable after 2010. The response covers all five activities and supports its overview with data, though greater precision in these comparisons would strengthen it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs grouping the activity trends. This makes the main comparisons easy to follow, and transitions such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” help signal relationships. The progression is not always smooth, however. The sentence beginning “While in amateur dramatics” is awkwardly attached to the table-tennis point, and the musical-performance comparison is crowded into the same sentence. Some linking phrases, including “after it gets stable,” do not clearly express the sequence shown. To move beyond this level, give each comparison a complete, clearly structured sentence and use time markers consistently so the reader can follow changes from one year to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “declined,” “fluctuated,” “significant increase,” and “peak,” so the reader can understand the broad patterns. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, as in “differnet,” “dramtically,” “ameteur,” and “performace.” Several phrases are also unnatural or imprecise: “increasing participants,” “most people participates,” and “same pattern” do not express the data idiomatically. Use standard collocations such as “the number of participants increased” and “followed a similar pattern.” More accurate spelling and a wider range of precise trend language would make the report clearer and more controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a range of sentence forms, including comparisons and clauses with “while” and “whereas,” but complex sentences are often faulty and errors recur. For example, “The line graph illustrates the number of people participate” needs a relative clause or gerund construction, while “it started from 2000 where it had 65 people” has an unclear clause structure. Subject–verb agreement is also inconsistent in “Film club has the most people participates,” and several sentences lack clear punctuation or contain run-on structures, particularly the paragraph comparing amateur dramatics and musical performances. These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise building shorter, accurate sentences first, then combine them with correctly formed subordinate clauses and consistent past-tense reporting.
