Student answer (Band 6.0)
The graph presents data about the participants of several social activities at a centre in Melbourne, Australia from 2000 to 2020.
Overall, the participants interested in film club and martial arts almost remained unchanged between 2000 to 2020. A surge has been observed in the number of participants for table tennis and musical performances and there is continuous decline in interest for amateur dramatics. The most of participants were interested in film club activities.

On the other hand, the participants interested in table tennis gradually increased from 2000 to 2010 and continued to increased at greater rate till 2020. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall patterns: film club remains the most popular activity, table tennis and musical performances rise, and amateur dramatics declines. These are relevant features and the overview gives the reader a useful summary. Some details, however, are incomplete or imprecise. For example, amateur dramatics was about 26 in 2000 and 28 in 2005, so it did not stay almost the same before falling; it rose slightly first. Table tennis increased only modestly to 2010, then climbed sharply, a key change that could be stated more clearly. The final sentence is unfinished and gives no figures for film club or martial arts, leaving those trends underdeveloped. Include selected start and end values and complete the comparison to report the data more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to an overview and then to details about the activities. Phrases such as “On the other hand” and “Similarly” help signal relationships between trends. However, the progression is weakened by grouping several series together without enough specific comparison, and the final paragraph ends abruptly after “around,” so the discussion feels incomplete. Some linking is also mechanical: “Similarly trend has been observed” does not clearly explain which features are alike. Organise the body into clearer comparisons—for example, declining amateur dramatics alongside rising table tennis, then the two relatively stable activities—and ensure each paragraph develops a complete point.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “surge,” “decline,” “gradually increased,” and “remained almost unchanged,” which helps describe trends. Some word choices and collocations are less natural or precise, such as “participants interested in” and “activities related to amateur dramatics”; “participants in” would be more direct. “A greater rate” is also awkward when describing the sharper rise in table tennis, and “dram itics” is misspelled in the response. Repetition of “participants” and “interested” limits flexibility. Aim for concise chart language such as “the figure for,” “rose sharply,” and “fell steadily,” while checking spelling and choosing collocations that fit numerical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including contrast and time clauses, and the main trends are generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain. In “between 2000 to 2020,” the time expression should be “between 2000 and 2020”; “continued to increased” should be “continued to increase”; and “Similarly trend” needs an article (“A similar trend”). The phrase “The most of participants” also has an unnecessary article, while “The participants for film clubs and martial arts remained…” is an awkwardly formed sentence. The final sentence is incomplete, which affects accuracy and clarity. Review verb patterns after “to,” article use, and sentence completion, while retaining the complex structures you are already attempting.
