Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several relevant patterns, including the film club remaining around 60–70, amateur dramatics falling to below 10, and musical performances starting at zero and rising. However, the overview is unclear and includes an inaccurate claim: amateur dramatics does not have the lowest participation throughout, since musical performances begin at zero. The statement that table tennis has the “highest number” in 2000 is also incorrect; it starts below 20, while the film club is highest. Some key comparisons are missing, especially the film club’s consistently high figures and table tennis’s sharp rise to become the second-largest activity by 2020. Select the main trends accurately and summarise them clearly before giving supporting details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to a general statement and then descriptions of individual activities. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression is uneven: the overview is difficult to interpret, and the final paragraph combines table tennis and musical performances without a clear comparison or consistent sequence. Linking phrases such as “According to the graph” and “then” are repeated or used mechanically, while the transition “from 2005 to onwards” is unclear. Grouping the activities by trend—for example, stable figures, rising figures and declining figures—would make the comparisons easier to follow. Use clear paragraph roles and connect each detail to the overview.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “participants,” “increases,” “decreases,” and “approximately,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “the most number,” “participants are less than 10,” and “no part participants.” The repeated use of “number of participants” also makes the description less concise. Use precise trend language and natural collocations, such as “the figure rose,” “participation declined,” or “the total stood at.” Check activity names carefully and use “musical performances” consistently. These improvements would make the data description clearer and more appropriate to an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and longer sentences, and some relationships between years and trends can be understood. However, errors are frequent and sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “The line graph illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “at one social center” is missing an article before “social centre.” The sentence beginning “Table tennis has highest number of participants in 2000 is has…” contains faulty clause structure, and “it participants are less than 10” has an unclear subject and verb pattern. Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, as in “2020.while.” Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, and complete sentence structures before attempting longer comparisons.
