Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response identifies the chart’s subject and reports some relevant figures, including the near-zero start and later rise in musical performances and the sharp increase in table tennis. However, it omits three of the five activities—film club, martial arts and amateur dramatics—so it does not give a representative summary of the main trends. The overview mainly lists the activities rather than highlighting the key comparisons, such as film club remaining highest and amateur dramatics declining substantially. Some figures are also inaccurate: table tennis starts at about 16, not 15, and musical performances reach about 18, rather than 20. The response is six words below the required minimum. Cover all series selectively, give a clear overview, and check figures against the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph describing two activities. The use of “Overall” and “While” also signals an attempt to organise and compare information. However, progression is limited because the overview repeats the activity names without summarising the main patterns, and the final paragraph combines musical performances and table tennis in a long, difficult-to-follow sequence. Some linking is unclear, as in “While in table tennis there graph remain contant,” and the repeated time references make the account feel list-like. Grouping the activities by trend and using separate, focused sentences would make the comparisons easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “period,” “increase,” and “remain,” and it names the activities, so the reader can generally understand the topic. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “lowest ratio” for the lowest number, “the ratio to increase,” and “participants did participated.” There are also frequent spelling errors in words such as “ilustrates,” “activites,” “contant,” and “Muscical,” which reduce the accuracy and polish of the report. Use precise terms for quantities and trends, and proofread spelling carefully. A small set of accurate expressions such as “the number of participants rose” would improve clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “Overall” and a comparison introduced by “While.” However, control is inconsistent, and several errors make the sentences awkward or difficult to interpret. Examples include “participants did participated,” “there was 0 participants,” “the ratio to increase significantaly,” and “participants was 55.” These show problems with verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention, as in the opening phrase “at once social center.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and subject–verb agreement, and build shorter sentences before combining trends with linking clauses.
