Student answer (Band 5.5)

Alot of people participated in different activities at one social centre in Australia's city Melbourne.Data from time period 2000 to 2020 shows us the details of participant joining what type of activity. The activities may involve film club,Martial arts, Amateur dramatics, tabble tennis and Muscial performances.

In 2000 most participants that join a activity was Film club that is round about 65 more than any other activity. After film club it was martial arts that was right behind it with 38. other acitvities were less than both. but the one thing that we should notice that there were no participants for musical performances in the early 2000s.But that soon changed after 2005 with participants growing each year.

Throughout this data Film club was the most consistent and popular than others. But the ones with most changes are amateur dramatics and table tennis. With Amateur Dramatics it was downhill after 2005 but on the otherhand quite growth is seen in table tennis after 2010.At then end it was the film club which activity was famous out of all.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main categories and make a useful overall observation that film club remained the most popular, while table tennis rose and amateur dramatics declined. However, the report only partially selects and reports the key data. For example, the opening comparison gives martial arts as about 38 in 2000, whereas the graph shows approximately 36; the film-club figure is close. The claim that musical performances grew “each year” is broadly consistent after they begin, but the timing is imprecise: participation was still zero in 2005 and first appears in 2010. The overview also misses the striking rise in table tennis to about 54 by 2020 and the fall in amateur dramatics to about 6. Include a few accurate endpoint figures and clearer comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an initial comparison, and a concluding discussion of trends. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “After film club” and “Throughout this data” signal relationships between points. However, progression is limited because the report moves from the 2000 figures to general comments without systematically comparing the series across the period. Some linking is awkward or repetitive, including “But that soon changed” and “But the ones with most changes.” The final paragraph repeats that film club was the most popular rather than adding a concise overview of the main changes. Grouping the stable series together, then contrasting the sharp rise and decline, would make the information easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a graph, including “participants,” “consistent,” “growth,” and “downhill,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are informal or imprecise for an academic report: “right behind it,” “one thing that we should notice,” and “famous out of all.” There are also noticeable spelling errors in key terms, such as “tabble,” “Muscial,” and “acitvities,” which reduce accuracy. Some phrases do not express the data naturally, for example “participants growing each year” and “quite growth is seen.” Practise using precise trend language and checking the spelling of activity names; this will make your descriptions clearer and more appropriately formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer sentences and uses past-tense forms to describe the period, but the range of structures is limited and errors occur frequently. Examples include “most participants that join a activity was Film club,” where the verb form, article, and agreement are faulty, and “there were no participants for musical performances,” which would be clearer as “there were no participants in musical performances.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent: there is no space after several full stops, and “other activities were less than both” is an incomplete comparison in meaning. The final sentence, “it was the film club which activity was famous,” has an unclear relative structure. Build accurate simple sentences first, then practise combining them with controlled clauses.
