Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The line graph tracks the number of participants across five different activites at a single social centre in Melbourne, Australia between 2000 and 2020.
Overall, what stands out of the graph is that, film club engaged more people in comparison with other activities. The only activity that showed downward trend at the end of 2020 was amateur dramatics.
In 2000, film club was the most demanding activity with 65 participants, then it drops steadly to 60 participants in 2010, but onwards it showed progress and at the end of 2020, it secured the original number that was aproximately 65 participants. Martial arts also followed the same trent as film club, but initially only 36 participants showed their interest. Moving forward, it showed some lows and highs in a narrow zone but at the end of 2020, it reached to the same figure where it started.
Amateur dramatics was only the single activity that losed the number of participants. Starting with almost 26 participants, it showed some progress untill 2005, but it dramatically dropped to nearly 5 participants at the end of 2020. In contrast, tabble tennis became flyrocket in 2010 and increased substantially from only 20 participants to almost 55 at the end of 2020. Musical performances showed no records from 2000 to 2005, but it started going upwards and gradually reached at the number of 19 in 2020.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover all five activities and provide a clear overview, identifying the film club as the most popular and amateur dramatics as the activity that declined. Most figures and trends are accurately reported: film club falls to about 60 before recovering, martial arts fluctuates around the mid-30s, and table tennis rises sharply to roughly 54. The account also captures musical performances’ gradual growth from zero. However, the overview’s phrase “the only activity that showed downward trend at the end of 2020” is unclear: amateur dramatics declined overall, while film club and martial arts ended above or at their starting levels. Some comparisons could be more explicit, especially the major rise in table tennis and its position relative to martial arts by 2020. A more precise overview and clearer comparisons would strengthen the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response is organised into an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs, and the information generally progresses from the leading activities to the declining and rising series. Linking expressions such as “In contrast” help signal a comparison, while time markers guide the reader through changes. This gives the report a coherent overall arrangement. At times, however, connections are mechanical or unclear. “Moving forward” does not clearly indicate the period being discussed, and “the only activity that showed downward trend at the end of 2020” is difficult to interpret as a summary of the whole period. The final paragraph also groups three contrasting activities without a clear comparison between them. Use more precise time references and organise the details around clear trends to make progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for describing trends, including “gradually,” “substantially,” “dropped” and “fluctuated” (though the latter idea is expressed as “lows and highs”). These choices help communicate the main movements. However, several inaccurate or unnatural expressions weaken precision and control: “most demanding activity” does not mean most popular, “showed progress” is vague for a rise in participation, and “became flyrocket” is not an appropriate collocation. Spelling errors such as “activites,” “steadly,” “tabble” and “untill” are also noticeable. Aim for standard chart language and check spelling carefully; accurate phrases such as “had the highest participation” and “rose sharply” would make the report more natural and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses linked with “but,” “while” and “in contrast,” and the main trends remain understandable. Some grammatical errors occur, but they rarely prevent the reader from following the report. For example, “film club engaged more people” needs a more suitable subject-and-verb construction, and “it reached to the same figure” has an unnecessary preposition. There are also article and sentence-structure problems in “the only activity that showed downward trend” and “Amateur dramatics was only the single activity.” Tense control is generally appropriate for past data, though “it drops” shifts into the present within a past-time description. Review articles, prepositions and consistent past-tense reporting to improve accuracy.
