Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several relevant features, including the film club’s high participation, the decline in amateur dramatics, and the strong rise in table tennis. However, the account is only partial and some descriptions are inaccurate or unclear: film club participation was lowest in 2010, but it remained around 60, not a low overall figure; martial arts fluctuated rather than staying at an “average scale”; and musical performances began at zero in both 2000 and 2005. The overview that film club was highest and musical performances lowest is broadly supported, but the response gives little precise comparison across the period. It also contains only 120 words, below the required 150, leaving important trends underdeveloped. Add a clear overview and accurate key figures for the main changes.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response includes several relevant activities and attempts to connect them using phrases such as “whereas” and “while.” However, the information is presented as one long, crowded sequence rather than in a clear introduction, overview, and organised detail. The repeated pattern of “the number of…” makes the progression difficult to follow, and the final comparison is attached to the preceding information without a distinct summary structure. Some links also obscure the intended meaning, such as “less likely to occur in 2005,” which does not clearly describe participant numbers. Separate the overview from the detailed comparisons, group related trends, and use clear sentence boundaries so the reader can follow the changes over time.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “participants,” “significant drop,” “dramatically,” and “improvement,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are imprecise or unnatural for describing a graph. “Average scale” does not clearly express the martial arts figures, and “less likely to occur” describes the likelihood of an event rather than the number of participants. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “significanr,” “paticipants,” and “martiaal,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for precise trend language such as “fluctuated,” “rose steadily,” and “fell sharply,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to combine ideas in longer sentences, for example by using “while” and “whereas,” but these structures are often difficult to control. The opening runs several statements together, with missing sentence boundaries and inconsistent capitalisation. There are also errors in verb forms and agreement, such as “the amateur dramatics activity shows” alongside past-period data, and “musical performances … shows slow improvement.” The phrase “the number of … were” also mismatches a singular subject with a plural verb. These recurring problems make some relationships between ideas unclear. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then add subordinate clauses while checking subject–verb agreement, tense consistency, and punctuation.
