Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the main overall contrast: the film club remains the most popular activity, while amateur dramatics declines to the lowest level. You also report several relevant trends, including the rise in musical performances and the fall in amateur dramatics. However, the response only partially covers the graph: the most striking change, table tennis rising from about 16 to 54 participants, is omitted, and several figures or descriptions are imprecise. For example, film club reaches about 66 in 2020, not 68, and musical performances rise gradually rather than “drastically.” The overview also misses the major shift in table tennis. Select the most significant trends and compare their start and end points more accurately to make the summary more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview are followed by a sequence of activity-specific details. Linking phrases such as “To begin,” “On the other hand,” “Furthermore,” and “Lastly” help signal the order of information, and the reader can generally follow the discussion. This clear overall arrangement is a strength. However, the sequence does not prioritise the most important comparison, and the paragraph reads like a list rather than a synthesis of related trends. Some connections are also awkward, particularly the final sentence about martial arts, which ends without a clear concluding comparison. Grouping the rising activities together and contrasting them with the declining one would create smoother progression and more effective cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “participants,” “dropping slightly,” “increased,” and “decreasing dramatically,” so the main trends are usually understandable. There are also attempts to vary descriptions rather than repeat one verb throughout. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “marital ars,” “amarteur,” and “rythimically,” and some expressions are unnatural or imprecise. “Musical participants” is not the same as participants in musical performances, while “maintained the same number” is awkward in this context. Use accurate activity names and standard trend language, such as “fluctuated” for martial arts and “rose steadily” for musical performances, to improve precision and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including contrasts introduced by “On the other hand” and “before.” Most of the intended meaning can be understood, and the response uses past-time references appropriate to the period shown. However, control is uneven: “Film club has … dropping … and increase” shifts between verb forms, and “amateur dramatics have 25 … and they increased” has inconsistent tense and agreement. The final sentence also lacks a clear full stop and has an incomplete construction around “as at the 2000.” Articles, plurals, and punctuation need more consistent attention. Practise writing complete past-tense sentences, checking that each subject has a matching verb and that each sentence is properly finished.
