Student answer (Band 5.5)
The line graph compares the participation trends of multiple activities that used to be happen at Melbourne community facility Australia over duration of 2000 to 2020.
To start with the year 2000, film club has significant count of participants approximately 65 followed by martial arts, amateur dramatics and table tennis. Unfortunately none took part in musical performances for respective year. Moreover, in 2005 the participation declined for film club and martial arts but for amateus drama and table tennis contributors increased followed by musical pursuits showing little involvement. In the following next fifth year, public contribution to films and dramas further declined while for remaining three public showed interests. From the trends of 2015 and 2020, it can be seen that art activities such as film clubs, amateur dramatics and musical performances gained public attention with locals taking part in them. On the other hand, sport games that are table tennis and martial arts remained behind in catching attention.
In conclusion, film clubs had highest participation count among other, followed by martial arts till 2010 where table tennis outgrowed it for next years. Similarly, musical activities became popular then dramatic events after 2010.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several relevant features, including the film club’s leading position at the start, the absence of musical-performance participants in 2000, and the rise of table tennis. However, the account only minimally reports the graph’s main patterns, and some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear. For example, table tennis overtook martial arts by 2015, but the conclusion says it “outgrowed” martial arts without clearly identifying when; more importantly, the claim that film clubs, amateur dramatics and musical performances all gained attention from 2015 to 2020 is wrong for amateur dramatics, which fell to about six. The overview also misclassifies table tennis and martial arts as sports that remained behind. Focus on the clearest overall trends and support them with accurate comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable sequence: it begins with 2000, moves through later years, and ends with a conclusion. Time markers such as “in 2005” and “in the following next fifth year” help signal chronology, and the contrast introduced by “On the other hand” is useful. However, progression is sometimes difficult to follow because several years and activities are grouped together without precise comparisons. Phrases such as “for remaining three public showed interests” leave the reader unsure which series changed and how. The conclusion also repeats earlier points rather than providing a clear, accurate summary. Organise the body into clearer trend groups—for example, declining amateur dramatics versus rising table tennis—and use linking phrases to show exact contrasts.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of vocabulary related to participation and change, including “declined,” “gained public attention,” and “remained behind.” These choices show an effort to avoid repeating basic words. However, several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural for describing a graph, which sometimes makes the meaning unclear: “public contribution to films,” “outgrowed it,” and “art activities” do not precisely describe participant numbers. There are also spelling and word-form problems, such as “amateus drama.” Use standard data-reporting collocations and choose words that describe numbers rather than public interest unless the graph directly measures interest. More precise vocabulary would make your comparisons clearer and more appropriately formal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple statements and longer sentences with time clauses and contrasts, as in “In the following next fifth year…” and “On the other hand…”. This gives the response some structural variety, and the general meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors in sentence construction and verb forms occur repeatedly. For example, “that used to be happen” has an incorrect verb pattern, while “film club has significant count” lacks an appropriate article and grammatical structure. “Film clubs had highest participation count among other” also has problems with articles and comparison structure. Tense and agreement are not consistently controlled. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build comparisons with patterns such as “the figure for X rose, whereas Y fell.”
