Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response identifies the main patterns accurately: table tennis and musical performances rise, amateur dramatics declines, and film club and martial arts remain comparatively stable. It also supports these points with relevant figures, such as table tennis increasing from about 15 to above 50 and amateur dramatics ending below 10. This gives a clear account of the graph’s key features. Some descriptions are slightly imprecise or over-generalised: table tennis rises sharply mainly after 2010, rather than simply “from 2010 to 2020,” and musical performances reach about 18, not 20. The overview could also make the final ranking clearer, particularly that film club remains highest while table tennis becomes second. More precise comparisons would strengthen an otherwise well-focused summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response is organised into a clear introduction, overview and two detail paragraphs. The grouping is logical: the rising activities are discussed together, followed by the declining and relatively stable series. Linking phrases such as “Overall,” “Similarly” and “In contrast” help signal these relationships, and the reader can follow the main progression. To make the flow more polished, ensure each comparison is expressed precisely: “Similarly” links two rising series, but their starting points and rates of growth differ substantially. The final paragraph also combines the decline and stable trends, so a clearer transition between these groups would help. Minor spacing and punctuation issues, such as the missing space after “2020.”, slightly interrupt the presentation.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
There is a reasonable range of vocabulary for describing trends, including “significant inclines,” “gradual decline,” “dramatic and rapid jump” and “fluctuation.” These choices make the overall direction of change clear, and the response avoids repeating only basic terms such as “go up” and “go down.” However, some collocations and word choices are not natural for this chart: participants do not “face” an incline, and “apprentice” does not describe people attending musical performances. “Distinctive activities” and “comparative analysis of number” are also unnecessarily awkward. Aim for conventional data-reporting language and use “participants” consistently rather than switching among “members,” “performers,” “attendees” and “learners.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and more complex structures, including the contrast clause “while amateur dramatics suffered gradual decline” and the sentence beginning “In contrast.” Most meanings remain clear. Some grammatical errors and awkward constructions persist, however. The introduction has a repeated “of” and is missing an article in “comparative analysis of number”; “Film club and martial art attendees almost remained same” also needs more accurate article and verb phrasing. In the musical-performances sentence, the structure shifts awkwardly from “was with 0” to “progressing,” making the relationship between the figures less controlled. Review articles, singular/plural forms and sentence boundaries, especially the missing space after the full stop before “Furthermore.”
