Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall contrast: table tennis rises substantially, while amateur dramatics declines, and you also report the film club’s high, broadly stable figures and the increase in musical performances. Most figures are close to the chart, including the final values for table tennis and amateur dramatics. However, the overview says most categories had a positive trend, which is misleading because martial arts fluctuates around a similar level and amateur dramatics falls markedly. The table-tennis starting figure is also understated: it begins at about 16, not 14. Martial arts is described only as remaining between 30 and 40, so its fluctuations are not clearly summarised. A more precise overview and fuller comparisons would make the key features clearer.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing the activities. This gives the reader a coherent general route through the information, and contrasts such as “Similarly” and “In contrast” help signal relationships. However, the grouping is not always logical: table tennis and amateur dramatics are introduced as “the remaining category” and “the last activity,” although they are two separate series, and the paragraph shifts between them abruptly. Some linking phrases are mechanical or unclear, particularly “Moving further with.” Improve progression by grouping the two rising series together, then the fluctuating and declining series, and use clear references to each activity. This would make the comparisons easier to follow without relying on formulaic transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of trend vocabulary, including “gradual incline,” “moderate rise,” “sharp incline,” and “negative trend,” so the main movements are generally understandable. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: participants are not “busy in” activities, musical performances are not “platforms,” and “sawed a gradual incline” does not express the intended trend. There are also spelling errors in “tennish,” “begining,” and “showd,” which reduce the accuracy of the report. Aim for precise, conventional chart language and check spelling carefully. For example, use “participants in,” “musical performances,” and “rose gradually” rather than the less natural phrases in the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including contrast clauses such as “In contrast, Martial arts remained…” and a relative clause in “the number of citizen who interested in it.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors remain. In the relative clause, the verb “was” is missing (“citizens who were interested”), and “the figure was declined” uses an incorrect passive construction; write “the figure declined.” There are also problems with articles and number, as in “started with just 14 person,” and with sentence boundaries and punctuation, including the run-on transition “In addition the last activity…”. Review verb patterns, plural forms, and punctuation while retaining your attempts at varied sentence structures.
