Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response identifies the main overall pattern: the film club remained the most popular activity, table tennis rose substantially, and amateur dramatics declined. It also includes useful comparisons, such as table tennis and amateur dramatics both having about 20 participants in 2010. These relevant features support a strong account of the graph. Some details, however, are inaccurate or unclear: musical performances began in 2010, not 2005, and the film club stayed roughly between 60 and 66 rather than 60 and 70. The overview could also better highlight the sharp rise in table tennis and the contrasting fall in amateur dramatics. The main features are covered, but not all are reported with consistent precision.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about the activities. Grouping the film club and musical performances before discussing the other series gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes uneven, and several linking expressions are awkward or repetitive, including “Where as,” “After that,” and repeated uses of “participants.” The sentence beginning “Participants participate in five activities” largely repeats the introduction rather than advancing the comparison. Some references are also unclear, such as “It just came up,” which makes the musical-performance trend harder to follow. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each activity’s figures directly to its trend.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses relevant graph vocabulary, including “participants,” “increased,” “decreasing,” and “stable,” so the reader can generally understand the trends being described. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “the highest participants,” “the participant participated heavily increased,” and “it just came up.” Repetition of “participants” and “activity” also reduces precision. There are spelling errors, including “Ameateur” and “reamins,” and some forms are used inconsistently, such as “Amateur dramatic” and “Musical performance.” Aim for concise, accurate trend language and use the activity names consistently; this will make comparisons clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and longer sentences, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, with errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “The Line graph illustrate” needs subject–verb agreement, while “Table tennis activity have” also has an agreement error. The phrase “the number of participants participate” uses an incorrect verb pattern, and “it remains same 35 participants” lacks the article and a suitable construction. Some sentences are fragments or awkwardly joined, such as “Where as, Table tennis…” and “While, Musical performance…”. Practise accurate comparison structures and past-tense reporting, while varying sentence forms without sacrificing control.
