Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The opening identifies the chart’s subject and time span, and you attempt an overview by noting that the film club had the highest participation. However, the response reports almost none of the main features or comparisons, so it does not adequately summarise the data. More importantly, the claim that amateur dramatics showed “a sharp growth” is the opposite of the chart: participation fell from about 26 to 6, while table tennis rose sharply from around 16 to 54. The final point about musical performances is unfinished. The response is also 95 words below the required minimum. To improve, give a complete overview and support it with accurate figures and trends for the activities.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic sequence: an introductory sentence is followed by an attempted overview, and “Overall” signals a shift to the main summary. This gives the reader a small amount of structure. However, the response ends mid-sentence at “also showed a,” so the ideas are incomplete and there is no developed progression through the activities or years. The linking words “whereas” and “While” are not used to establish clear, complete comparisons, and the punctuation around them makes the flow harder to follow. Organise the response into a brief introduction, a clear overview, and one or two paragraphs comparing the main trends. Complete each sentence and use linking expressions only where the relationship between the data is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “participants,” “activities,” “largest,” and “sharp growth,” and the wording is generally understandable. However, the range is very limited because the response is so short, and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural. “Largest share” is not the clearest way to describe the highest participant total, while “the most dramatic category” is vague and does not convey the actual decline. “Social center” also needs a more natural expression in this context. The unfinished phrase “showed a” leaves the final idea unclear. Use precise trend language such as “remained relatively stable,” “rose substantially,” and “declined steadily,” ensuring that each phrase matches the figures.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response includes a basic present-tense introduction and an attempt at a more complex comparison, but grammatical control is uneven. In “information of twenty years of number of participants,” the noun phrase is not formed correctly; a clearer structure would be “information about participant numbers over twenty years.” The clause “the largest share of the contestants participate in social center was film club” has problems with sentence structure, agreement, and articles, making the intended comparison difficult to follow. The second sentence also runs together clauses without appropriate spacing or punctuation, and the final sentence is incomplete. Use shorter, complete sentences first, then add controlled comparisons with accurate verb forms and punctuation.
