Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover all five activities and report the main patterns: film club remains the largest, table tennis rises markedly, and amateur dramatics declines. Most figures are close to the chart, including the film-club peak and the sharp fall in amateur dramatics. However, the overview is partly inaccurate: musical performances are not the lowest throughout, since they rise above amateur dramatics by 2015 and finish at 18 compared with 6. The final overview also repeats that film club is most popular rather than summarising the contrasting trends. To strengthen the response, make the overview capture the major changes and comparisons, and ensure claims such as “musical performances are lower among all activities” reflect the whole period.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a broad overview, a paragraph reporting figures, and a concluding statement. The activities are generally presented in a clear sequence, so the reader can follow the data. However, the overview is split between the opening and the final paragraph, and the conclusion largely repeats the claim that film club has the most participants. The long middle paragraph lists each series in turn, with repeated constructions such as “participants participated,” which makes the progression mechanical. Grouping the two broadly stable activities together and contrasting them with the rising and falling series would create clearer comparisons. Use paragraphing to separate the overview from the detailed comparisons, and avoid repeating the same point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “gradually,” “decrease,” and “upward trend,” and the activity names are clear. The range is adequate for describing changes, but several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, particularly “participants participated” and “famous among all these activities.” There are also spelling errors in “activites,” “numer,” “partiipants,” and “decrese,” which reduce the accuracy and polish of the report. Choose more natural collocations for describing participation and popularity, and vary the verbs used for movement, such as “fell,” “remained stable,” and “climbed.” Careful proofreading would also help ensure that spelling does not distract from the data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response communicates the figures using mostly simple sentence patterns, with some attempts to link changes over time using “then” and “while.” However, grammatical control is uneven. For example, “it gradually decrease” needs a past-tense verb, and “film club … have most participants” has a subject–verb agreement error. The opening comparison, “Film club continuously is higher,” also has an awkward sentence structure, while several data sentences are joined into long sequences without clear punctuation. Use past tense consistently for the period shown, check agreement between subjects and verbs, and vary sentence structures by combining related trends in controlled complex sentences. These changes would make the report easier to read and more accurate.
