Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main overall pattern: film club remained the most popular, table tennis grew strongly, and amateur dramatics declined. Several figures are also broadly accurate, including film club’s rise to about 66 and table tennis reaching 54. However, coverage is incomplete: musical performances, which rose from zero to around 18, are omitted, and the martial arts account ends with “returned to around 36 in 2000,” rather than 2020. The overview is also general and does not capture the contrast between table tennis overtaking martial arts by 2015 and the continued dominance of the film club. Include all five activities and check the final year carefully to make the summary more complete and precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, moving from an introduction and overview to separate paragraphs about the activities, with a concluding sentence. This makes the main trends easy to locate. Linking phrases such as “Although,” “on the other hand,” and “Overall” help signal contrast and sequence. To make the progression more controlled, avoid repeating the overview in the conclusion and use that space to compare the series directly. The opening list is a sentence fragment, while the overview contains awkward punctuation (“decline. and one remained”). Also, the final sentence combines several ideas unclearly. More precise links between the activities and cleaner sentence boundaries would strengthen cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use a reasonably varied range of trend vocabulary, including “fluctuations,” “rebounded,” “soared,” and “steady decline,” and these choices generally communicate the graph’s movements clearly. Some less common expressions are not used naturally or precisely: “boosted approximately 64 participants” is an unsuitable collocation, and “social media centre” changes the meaning of the task’s “social centre.” The phrase “the table tennis fastest growing at the amateur and dramatics” is also difficult to interpret, partly because the activity name is mishandled. Aim for accurate, conventional chart language such as “had approximately 64 participants,” “social centre,” and “amateur dramatics.” This would retain your range while improving precision and naturalness.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, for example, “Although the number dipped to around 60 in 2010, it rebounded to nearly 66 by 2020.” This structure is clear and well controlled. However, several errors affect accuracy: “The line graph provide” has subject–verb disagreement, and the opening list is not a complete sentence. The overview’s punctuation creates a sentence fragment, while “returned to around 36 in 2000” gives the wrong year in the sentence structure. The concluding sentence also lacks a clear grammatical relationship between its clauses. Check agreement, sentence boundaries, and clause construction, especially when combining comparisons. These issues sometimes make the intended meaning less clear.
