Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important patterns: film club remains the largest activity, table tennis rises substantially, amateur dramatics declines, and martial arts fluctuates around a similar level. These are relevant features and give the response a basic overview. However, some comparisons are unclear or inaccurate. The statement that musical performances were the “least” activity only from 2005 to 2020 overlooks that they were also lowest in 2000, and “only around 13 percent” confuses participant numbers with percentages. The overview also does not clearly highlight the striking rise in table tennis or the contrast between it and amateur dramatics. Report figures as numbers of participants and describe the main trends more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a generally understandable order: it introduces the graph, gives an overview, and then comments on the activities. Linking expressions such as “while” and “However” help signal comparisons and contrast, so the reader can follow the main points. At times, though, the progression feels compressed: film club, table tennis and amateur dramatics are grouped together without explaining their different patterns, and the final sentence repeats the point that musical performances increased only modestly. The opening and overview would be clearer as separate, purposeful stages, followed by comparisons grouped by trend. Use references such as “this figure” carefully, and avoid connectors that imply a contrast when the relationship is simply an additional detail.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of task-related vocabulary, including “surge,” “downfall,” “stagnent,” and “ups and downs,” and the reader can generally identify the activities and trends you mean. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing a line graph. “Strength of participants” and “social participation” do not clearly express participant numbers, while “surge” overstates the relatively modest change in film-club attendance. Spelling errors such as “Melbourn,” “amateure,” and “drametics” also reduce precision. Choose standard collocations such as “the number of participants,” “rose steadily,” and “declined sharply,” and use “participants” rather than percentages unless the data are actually percentages.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple statements and some attempts at more complex sentences, for example, the comparison beginning “while amateur dramatics faced a downfall.” The main message is usually recoverable, but errors in sentence construction and verb forms occur across the response. Examples include “people taken part” instead of a correctly formed relative clause, “over the from 2000 to 2020,” and “was remain stagnent.” Articles and prepositions are also missing or awkward in phrases such as “in range of activities” and “In the terms of.” These patterns make some sentences difficult to read smoothly. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build comparisons with complete clauses, checking articles and prepositions when editing.
