Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the chart’s subject and mention several relevant patterns, including the film club’s high participation, table tennis rising, and amateur dramatics declining. However, the response only partially reports the main features: it gives few accurate comparisons across the five activities, and the overview that the other activities show “rapid fluctuations” is too broad. Some details are unclear or inaccurate: table tennis starts at about 16, not simply its “lowest” without a figure, and its rise is not described clearly across the full period. The film club and martial arts are broadly stable, but this is not supported with enough detail. The response is 106 words, below the 150-word minimum; the 14 words copied from the prompt do not count. Add a fuller overview and key figures for each major trend.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response with an introduction, an overview beginning “overall,” and a detail paragraph. This gives the reader some sense of the intended structure. However, progression is limited: the final paragraph moves between film club, table tennis and amateur dramatics without a clear sequence, and the repeated use of “but” and “and” makes relationships between points difficult to follow. Phrases such as “from 2010” do not clearly connect the stated change to the whole time period. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and selected details, then group activities by trend. More precise links such as “by contrast,” “while,” and “over the same period” would make comparisons easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “period,” “increased,” and “decline,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, spelling, and collocation errors make parts difficult to understand. For example, “steady flow” is not a natural way to describe stable figures, while “sharp increased” and “massive chnage” do not express the trend accurately. There are also repeated forms such as “activities” and “participants” without enough precise alternatives. Build a small set of accurate trend expressions—such as “remained stable,” “rose sharply,” and “fell steadily”—and check spelling and word forms before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences, but grammatical control is inconsistent and errors sometimes obscure the intended comparisons. For example, “film club and martial arts has” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “it can be that” is an incomplete or incorrectly formed construction. Several sentences run together, with full stops and commas used inconsistently, as in the overview and the final paragraph. Articles and sentence structure also need attention in phrases such as “in 2000 flim club has 65 participants.” Use complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, check singular and plural agreement, and separate each main point with appropriate punctuation. A few carefully controlled complex sentences would improve range.
