Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the five activities and give a broad overview that the film club is initially highest and amateur dramatics declines, which shows a relevant response to the graph. However, several key details are inaccurate or unclear: the film club falls slightly before rising, rather than “constantly” increasing, and it ends at about 66, not 69. Table tennis shows the strongest growth, from about 16 to 54, but calling it the activity with the “lowest growth” contradicts the data. Musical performances begin in 2010, not 2005, and reach about 18. Martial arts fluctuates around the mid-30s, but this is not explained. Select the main trends accurately and compare the final figures to make the report more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, detail paragraphs and a concluding sentence. The sequence from general features to individual activities is broadly understandable, and phrases such as “Meanwhile” and “On the other hand” attempt to connect comparisons. However, the overview is difficult to follow because “table tennis experienced lowest growth” conflicts with the later description of its rapid rise. Some transitions are also mechanical or do not express the relationship clearly, such as “Therefore” before the musical performances detail. The conclusion repeats earlier points rather than adding a clear synthesis. Grouping activities by trend—for example, rising, fluctuating and declining—would create more logical progression and make comparisons easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “participants,” “peak,” “fluctuations,” “rose” and “fell sharply,” so the reader can generally identify the trends you intend to describe. However, the range and control are limited by repeated or imprecise wording, including “number of participants,” “increased” and “rose.” Several word-choice and spelling errors are noticeable: “socal,” “flim,” “futher” and “marital arts.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “maintain the gradual growth” and “reached at his peak.” Use accurate activity names and choose verbs that distinguish a steady rise, a fluctuation and a sharp increase. More precise vocabulary would help communicate the graph’s comparisons without relying on vague descriptions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer structures, including “On the other hand amateur dramatics reached at his peak … before fell sharply,” but control of these structures is inconsistent. Errors in verb forms and sentence construction occur in several places: “participants participated,” “table tennis rose … to 56,” and “before fell sharply” need more accurate grammatical patterns. The opening also lacks an article in “about number of participants,” while “martial arts witnessing” is not a complete clause. These problems sometimes make relationships between figures and time periods unclear. Practise forming complete clauses with a clear subject and finite verb, and check tense consistency when describing past data. Simpler, accurate sentences would be more effective than complex structures that are not yet controlled.
