Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify several important broad patterns: table tennis rises substantially, amateur dramatics falls, and film-club participation remains comparatively high. However, the report contains major inaccuracies and omissions that make the account only partially reliable. Amateur dramatics did not rise from 15 to 20 at the start; it moved from about 26 to 28 before declining to 6. The claim that martial arts grew from 0 to 20 is incorrect: it fluctuated around the mid-30s, while musical performances rose from zero to about 18. The overview also wrongly says film club, martial arts and musical performances all remained stable. To improve, check each series against the graph and give a concise, accurate overview of the contrasting trends.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs, and it groups some activities together. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression is weakened by unclear or inaccurate links between ideas. For example, “The martial arts remained similar” is followed by a claim about participants rising from zero, which actually refers to musical performances, so the reference is confusing. Connectors such as “while” and “and then” are used, but relationships between the series are not consistently clear, and the final paragraph combines several trends without a clear organising principle. Use one paragraph for the overview and group details by trend, checking that each sentence clearly names the activity it describes.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing charts, including “increased,” “declined,” “slightly decreased” and “throughout the period.” These choices make the general topic understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are unnatural or imprecise, such as “amount of individuals,” “remained stabled” and “hit the rock bottom.” “Amount” is also unsuitable for countable participants; “number” is more appropriate. Repetition of “number of participants” and “individuals” further limits flexibility. Aim for accurate, conventional chart language, such as “the figure for,” “rose sharply,” “fell steadily” and “fluctuated.” More precise vocabulary will help distinguish stable, rising and declining trends without relying on informal expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and joined sentences, and the main meaning is often recoverable. However, control is inconsistent, with frequent errors in sentence boundaries, verb forms, agreement and punctuation. For example, “Overall, the graph” lacks spacing after the comma, while “the number … increased … and then … hit” is followed by the fragment “while the amount…” beginning with a lower-case letter. In “the number … gradually increases,” the present tense does not match the past period being described; use “increased.” There are also missing spaces around punctuation and inconsistent sentence starts, as in “year.And.” Practise writing complete sentences in the past tense, with clear punctuation, and check subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries before submitting.
