Student answer (Band 5.0)
The line graph comprises the number of people who participate in different activities in Australia from period 2000 to 2020.
According to the line graph the number of participents taking part in Film club are almost constant but the people how participate in table tennis are gradually climbed from 15 participents to almost 55 percent within 20 years.while the number of people who take interest in music has been increase from 0 to almost 15 percent.on the other hand amteur dramtics number significantly dropped from 25 percent to almost 5 percent. similarly matirial artist show a wave of ups and downs.
So according to this line graph difference participent have been intrested in different kinds of activities some show more intrest to table tennis and film club thats why there number is steadily increase.likewise other are losing their attraction in activities so there percentage continuously declined . however some people are oscillated they have never changed there intrest so there number remain same during this time period.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important patterns: film-club participation is broadly stable, table tennis rises markedly, amateur dramatics declines, and musical performances begin at zero before increasing. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear. Table tennis rises from about 16 to 54 participants, not “15 participants to almost 55 percent”; the graph shows numbers of people, not percentages. Film-club figures dip slightly before rising, while martial arts fluctuates around the mid-30s rather than showing a clear overall change. The final claim that some participants “have never changed their interest” is not supported by the changing figures. To strengthen the summary, give a clear overview and compare the main trends using accurate units and selected figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic sequence, moving from an opening statement to trend descriptions and then a concluding comment. Linking expressions such as “on the other hand” and “similarly” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, the overall progression is difficult to follow because several trends are crowded into one long paragraph, and the final paragraph repeats general claims rather than developing a clear comparison. Some links are also illogical: “similarly” does not clearly connect the decline in amateur dramatics with the fluctuating martial-arts figures. Organise the response into an introduction, an overview, and one or two paragraphs grouping related trends. Use linking words only where the relationship between the ideas is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “almost constant,” “dropped,” “ups and downs,” and “declined.” This gives the reader a general sense of the data. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “people who participate … are gradually climbed,” “show a wave,” and “losing their attraction in activities.” Repeated use of “people,” “number,” and “interest” also makes the account less precise. Spelling errors, including “participents,” “amteur,” and “matirial,” further reduce clarity. Practise standard graph language such as “the figure rose,” “participation fluctuated,” and “the number of participants fell,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts to combine ideas using clauses and contrast, for example, “while the number of people who take interest in music…” and “on the other hand…”. However, sentence structures are limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some relationships difficult to understand. Examples include “the people how participate … are gradually climbed,” “the number … has been increase,” and “there number is steadily increase.” Subject–verb agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries need attention. Several sentences also run together without appropriate punctuation, particularly the long sentence beginning “According to the line graph.” Build accuracy first with clear simple sentences, then practise adding subordinate clauses while keeping verb forms and agreement consistent.
