Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the main contrast that film club remained the most popular activity and amateur dramatics declined, and you include some relevant figures, such as about 64 participants for film club in 2000 and 6 for amateur dramatics in 2020. However, the response is incomplete: it omits table tennis and musical performances, including table tennis’s strong rise to become the second-largest activity by 2020. Some reported details are inaccurate: film club was around 60 in 2010, not stable at 62, and finished at about 66 rather than nearly 70. The overview also says amateur dramatics declined sharply without noting the major growth in table tennis. At 117 words, the response is 33 words below the required minimum; the 12 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Report all key series and their main trends to address the task more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overall statement, and paragraphs describing selected activities. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, the progression is incomplete because two of the five activities are not discussed, and the body paragraphs do not provide a balanced account of the graph. Linking is also limited: “In contrast” signals a comparison, but the relationship between the activities in the preceding paragraph and amateur dramatics is not developed. Improve the organisation by grouping the main upward trends together and the declining or fluctuating trends together, then use clear comparisons between them. This would create a more coherent progression while retaining the useful paragraph structure already present.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “participants,” “popular activity,” “stable,” and “fell,” so the basic meaning is generally recoverable. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the report less clear, for example “grapgh,” “Material art,” “flucting,” and “continously.” Some trend descriptions are also awkward, such as “fell continously decrease,” which combines two ways of expressing decline. Use accurate chart language consistently, such as “fluctuated between,” “rose steadily,” or “declined to.” Check spelling carefully and choose the correct activity label, “martial arts.” A wider, more precise set of trend verbs and comparison phrases would help you describe all five series without repetition.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a comparison introduced by “In contrast” and a sequence using “before.” However, control is uneven, and errors in sentence structure, verb forms, and punctuation sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “the highest figures the number remain stable” lacks a clear grammatical connection, while “before raising to nearly 70” does not use the appropriate verb form for the trend. The final sentence, “but fell continously decrease,” also contains conflicting verb structures. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use consistent past-tense forms to describe the 2000–2020 data. Commas and full stops should separate the trend stages clearly.
