Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the main broad patterns: table tennis and musical performances rise, amateur dramatics declines, and film-club participation remains high. However, the report covers the data only partially and several details are inaccurate or unclear. Film-club numbers dip slightly before rising, while martial arts fluctuates rather than staying constant; the response does not explain these patterns clearly. The statement that amateur dramatics declines in 2005 is incorrect: it rises slightly from about 26 to 28 before falling later. The key rise in table tennis from around 20 in 2010 to 54 in 2020 is not reported, and the ending is unfinished. The response is also below the required 150 words. Add a complete overview and select accurate comparisons across the period.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, an overview and a body paragraph, so the reader can recognise an attempt to organise the report. However, progression is weak: the body jumps between years and activities without systematically comparing the five series, and the final sentence stops at “some experienced,” leaving the report incomplete. Linking is limited and sometimes awkward, as in “Whereas flim club…” and “Therefore,” which does not introduce a clear conclusion. Organise the details into a logical sequence—for example, describe the consistently high film-club and fluctuating martial-arts figures together, then contrast the sharp table-tennis rise with the decline in amateur dramatics. Use clear links such as “By contrast” and “Meanwhile” only where the relationship is accurate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “participants,” “fluctuated,” “upward trajectory” and “declines,” and the general subject remains understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to follow. “Proportion of candidates” is unsuitable because the graph gives numbers of participants, not proportions or candidates; “constant data” is also unnatural for a stable trend. There are noticeable spelling errors, including “Melbourn,” “flim,” “matrial” and “Amateure.” Prefer precise trend language and check spelling carefully. For example, describe figures as “remained relatively stable,” “rose steadily” or “fell sharply,” matching each phrase to the data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts a few different sentence forms, including an overview with a contrast and a sentence beginning “In year first 2000.” However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors in basic sentence construction and verb forms frequently make the report awkward. Examples include “over 20 year period between 2000 to 2020,” “film club and martial arts has,” and “Both has the same trend”; these need corrected articles, agreement and prepositions. The sentence “In 2005 the number of participants of amateur dramatics declines from 25” also has an unclear structure and tense choice. Use past tense consistently for the historical data, and build shorter, complete sentences before attempting more complex comparisons. Proofread for subject–verb agreement and sentence completion.
