Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify all five activities and report several important patterns, including film club remaining the most popular and amateur dramatics declining. However, some figures and trends are inaccurate: martial arts fluctuates around the mid-30s rather than rising steadily from 25, and table tennis reaches about 54 participants by 2020, not 50. You also say martial arts and table tennis were equal in 2015, although the chart shows approximately 34 and 36 respectively. The overview is implied rather than clearly summarised, and the response gives limited comparison across the full period. To strengthen the report, state the main contrasts explicitly and check each figure against the graph before describing a trend.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response follows a generally understandable order: it introduces the chart, names the activities, and then describes several series. This gives the reader some organisation, but there is no clear overview paragraph identifying the main changes before the details. Most information is placed in one continuous block, and links between points are sometimes abrupt, as in the shift from martial arts to dramatics and table tennis. Some linking is attempted through phrases such as “at the end” and “in year 2015,” but these do not consistently show how the trends compare. Grouping the activities into paragraphs—for example, stable or fluctuating figures versus rising or falling ones—and using clearer comparison links would create a more coherent progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “remains,” “steady rise,” “descend,” and “surge,” so the reader can understand the general subject and direction of change. However, the range is limited and some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “great interest” for a rise in participant numbers and “only 5 participants left,” which sounds as though people departed rather than the total falling. There are also spelling errors, including “activites” and “Participantion,” and repeated use of “participants” and “number.” Aim for precise trend language and natural collocations, such as “increased sharply,” “fell to,” and “the figure stood at.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response communicates its main points through mostly simple sentence patterns, with some attempts to combine ideas using commas and time phrases. However, sentence control is inconsistent, and several errors make the report less clear. For example, “This is the 20 years data” has an incorrect noun phrase, while “in year 2000 it was having 25 participants” uses an unsuitable verb form. The sentence beginning “Participantion in table tennis club shows…” also has faulty structure and agreement. Capitalisation after full stops is inconsistent, and several comma splices join independent clauses. Use complete sentences with accurate past-tense forms, and separate related points with full stops or appropriate conjunctions.
