Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s five activities and correctly note that the film club had the highest participation and amateur dramatics declined after 2005. You also capture the strong rise in table tennis and the later appearance of musical performances. However, the account is only partially developed: the film-club figure is described as staying the same, although it dips slightly before rising, and the martial-arts figures are not summarised across the period. The overview is also brief and does not clearly compare the main changes, such as table tennis becoming the second-largest activity by 2020 while amateur dramatics fell to the lowest level. Select the most important trends and report them accurately, with a few supporting figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic sequence, moving from a short overview to descriptions of individual activities, and phrases such as “To begin with” and “Moreover” show an attempt to connect information. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the overview is followed by a film-club detail, then martial arts and amateur dramatics, before the final paragraph shifts to table tennis and musical performances. Some linking is mechanical or confusing, particularly “However” where no clear contrast is established. Paragraphing and sentence boundaries also make the relationships between points harder to follow. Grouping the activities by trend—for example, stable or fluctuating figures versus rising and falling figures—and using clear comparisons would create a more coherent progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “drastic fall,” and “gaining participants,” so the reader can generally understand the topic and trends. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “the numerical data of the players,” “were on the second place,” and “lower participants showed.” Spelling and word formation also reduce precision in “table tannis” and “inyear.” These errors do not prevent the main message from being understood, but they make the description less natural and occasionally unclear. Use standard terms such as “number of participants,” “ranked second,” and “participation fell,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts a few longer structures, including “It can be seen that…” and a clause beginning “while,” but most sentences rely on simple patterns, and some complex attempts are faulty. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in examples such as “The supplied line chart illustrate” and “the martial arts participant were.” There are also incomplete or awkward sentence structures, including “Further, the martial arts participant were on the second place…” and “there were almost 18 participants were mention.” Articles, punctuation, and sentence boundaries are inconsistent as well. These problems sometimes make the reader pause to interpret the meaning. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and build comparisons with controlled structures such as “while X rose, Y declined.”
