Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important overall patterns: the film club remains the largest activity, table tennis rises substantially, amateur dramatics declines, and martial arts stays fairly stable. These observations are broadly supported by the graph. However, the report is only partly developed: it gives few precise figures and does not clearly describe the starting and ending levels for most activities. The statement that musical performances grow “every year” is not quite accurate, as participation is unchanged from 2000 to 2005 before rising. Also, the comparison that the two declining and rising activities change by 15 and 35 participants “after 2010” is unclear and does not match the full-period changes. Include a concise overview and support it with accurate key figures and comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic sequence, moving from an introduction to general trends and then to individual comparisons. Linking phrases such as “on the other hand” and “because” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, the paragraphs do not create a clear overall progression, and several points are crowded into long sentences. For example, the second paragraph combines the film club, table tennis and amateur dramatics without clearly separating their trends. The final paragraph’s reference to “both” is also not fully clear, and the comparison is difficult to follow. Organise the report into a clear introduction, an overview of the main trends, and one or two paragraphs grouping related activities. Use references and linking words precisely rather than relying on broad connectors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing data, including “stable,” “increment,” “drop down,” “inverse,” and “trajectory,” so the reader can generally understand the trends you intend to report. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or unnatural, as in “insights of number of involved members,” “drastic increment,” and “top of graph.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “Amatuer,” “glace,” “performace,” and “repectivey.” These reduce precision and make the report less fluent. Build a reliable set of chart-description phrases, such as “the number of participants,” “rose sharply,” and “remained relatively stable,” and check spelling carefully. Aim to use trend vocabulary accurately rather than choosing more elaborate terms that do not fit naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes some simple sentences and attempts more complex structures, for example, “Amateur dramatics and Table tennis pattern are inverse of each other because after 2010 both have totally different trajectory.” However, errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms are frequent enough to make parts of the report awkward or unclear. Examples include “in the year from 2000 to 2020,” “Film club is the highest and stable activity,” and “martial art have one of the stable pattern.” There are problems with articles, agreement, plurals, and tense, as well as missing sentence-final punctuation. Use straightforward, complete sentences first, checking subject–verb agreement and singular/plural forms; then add complex clauses where the relationship between ideas is clear.
