Student answer (Band 6.0)
The given line graph demonstrates the information in connection with the numbers of participants for different activities (Film club, Martial arts, Amateur dramatics, Table tennis and musical performances) in a specific social centre in Melbourne, Australia in the year between 2000 to 2020.
The film club was the most popular activity, as it attracted around 64 individuals in 2000 and it decreased slightly to 59 in 2010 but the numbers increased to 65 in 2020 respectively. Moreover, Martial arts began at 36 participants in 2000, fluctuated slightly between 32 and 37 till 2010 and ultimately stabled at 35 participants in 2020. Furthermore, In Amateur dramatics around 27 people were interested in 2000 and the figure increased nearly to 30 in 2005 but, unfortunately there had been a sudden dip of less than 10 participants in 2020.
Nevertheless, 16 participants were interested in Table tennis in 2000 and it rose hardly to 20 and remained constant till 2010. Surprisingly, there had been a dramatic inclined of 53 people in the following years. Meanwhile, Music performances had no participants until 2005 after that the numbers ballooned enormously to 18 in 2020.
Overall, Film club was the most popular activity among others and Table tennis was the least popular choice but it experienced a upward trend later. Moreover, attendance for martial arts fluctuated throughtout the perod.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall pattern that the film club remained the most popular activity, and you report the contrasting rise in table tennis and decline in amateur dramatics. Most figures are close to the chart, including the film club’s level in 2000 and 2020 and table tennis’s starting point. However, the overview contains a significant misreading: table tennis was not the least popular overall, since amateur dramatics fell to about 6 by 2020, while musical performances also remained lower for much of the period. The table-tennis rise is described as dramatic but its timing is unclear, and the musical-performances trend is only briefly covered. A more precise overview comparing the strongest rises and falls would make the key features clearer and more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, paragraphs describing the activities, and a concluding overview. Grouping film club, martial arts and amateur dramatics before discussing table tennis and musical performances gives the reader a workable route through the data. However, some linking words feel mechanical or do not express the relationship accurately, such as “Nevertheless” before the table-tennis description and repeated “Moreover” and “Furthermore.” The final overview also repeats earlier information without resolving the comparison about which activity was least popular. Improve progression by organising the body around the main trends—stable/high figures, sharp growth, and decline—and use fewer, more precise transitions and references.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing trends, including “fluctuated,” “remained constant,” “dramatic,” and “upward trend.” These choices help communicate the broad movements, and the activity names are generally clear. Some less common expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “stabled” is not the right verb for a figure that stayed steady, “rose hardly” does not convey a small increase, and “dramatic inclined” is an incorrect word form and collocation. “Ballooned enormously” is also overly emphatic for the rise in musical performances. Spelling slips such as “throughtout” and “perod” reduce accuracy. Choose standard chart language and check spelling and word forms to make descriptions more precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “as,” “after that,” and “while,” and the main trends are usually understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, but they rarely prevent the reader from following the account. For example, “in the year between 2000 to 2020” uses an incorrect preposition pattern, and “there had been a sudden dip” uses an awkward tense for describing data across a chart period. Capitalisation is inconsistent in “Furthermore, In Amateur dramatics,” and the final sentence has agreement and article problems in “it experienced a upward trend.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and sentence patterns such as “from 2000 to 2020” and “the figure fell to…” while proofreading punctuation and articles.
