Student answer (Band 5.5)
The line graph illustrates how the number of participants in five different activities at one social centre, namely film club, martial arts, amateur dramatics, table tennis, and musical performances had changed in australia from 2000 to 2020.
Overall, while table tennis experienced considerable increases throughout, the opposite patterns were observed in the amateur dramatics. It is also noteworthy that amateur dramatics dominated the chart almost during the period, except for the last year due to a plunge since 2005.
At the begining of the exmined period, the number of participants in table tennis stood at around 18, after which is experienced a steady rise to around 38 in 2015, before ending up to 50 in 2020. Undergoing the similar trend but higher extent, the number of musical performances related participants started at 0 in year 2000, and still at 0 for next five years. Then it saw a marked surge to more than 17 participants in 2020, almost 17 times higher than its figure in 2000 and 2005. Both activities shared the highest position in the last year.
Meanwhile, amateur dramatics first stood at 37 in 2000, and the number was almost same for next five years, then it witnessed a remarkable decline to approximately 20 in 2010, before ending up at lowest position with its figure standing at only 8 to 9 participants in year 2020.
Moreover, the number of participants was totally fluctuated in film club activity. In the begining film club stood at around 65 and this number was declined by 5 people in year 2010. Afterthat, the number was agin increased and ending up with exect same figure as year 2000 at 65. Finally, in 2000 martial arts started at almost 38, then showing a little deacres to 32 in 2005. After decade, the number was agin increased by 5 to 6 participant and reach at same place in 2020 as started with 38 before 20 years ego.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the five activities and give an overview that recognises the rise in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. Several key figures and trends are also reported accurately, including film club’s broadly stable level and musical performances’ increase from zero. However, the overview contains a major misreading: amateur dramatics did not dominate for most of the period; film club had the highest participation throughout, while amateur dramatics fell from about 26 to 6. The claim that table tennis and musical performances shared the highest position in 2020 is also inaccurate: film club remained highest, followed by table tennis. Some details are imprecise, such as table tennis reaching about 54 rather than 50. Prioritise the overall ranking and the most significant changes.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall shape: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs describing groups of activities. This makes the information reasonably easy to follow, and transitions such as “Meanwhile” and “Moreover” signal changes in focus. However, the progression is weakened by the inaccurate overview and by grouping musical performances with table tennis without clearly distinguishing their different scales and starting points. Some linking is mechanical, particularly the repeated “then” and “after” sequences, while “Finally” introduces martial arts after the film-club discussion in a way that interrupts the paragraph’s flow. Organise the body around clear comparisons—for example, the consistently high film-club figures and the contrasting rise and fall of other activities—and use references that make each trend easy to track.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of trend vocabulary, including “steady rise,” “marked surge,” “remarkable decline,” and “plunge,” which helps describe changes. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “the number … was totally fluctuated,” “ending up to 50,” and “higher extent.” Spelling errors are also noticeable, including “begining,” “exmined,” “agin,” and “deacres,” and these reduce the overall control of vocabulary. Some expressions are unnecessarily elaborate or imprecise, such as “musical performances related participants.” Aim for concise, standard chart language: say that participation “fluctuated,” “rose to” a figure, or “participants in musical performances” increased. Check spelling carefully and choose precise terms for the data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “while,” “after which,” and “before,” and the main trends are generally understandable. However, errors recur in verb forms, sentence construction, articles, and agreement. For example, “after which is experienced a steady rise” lacks a clear subject and uses an incorrect verb form; “this number was declined” should use an active construction; and “the number … was totally fluctuated” has an incorrect verb pattern. There are also problems with phrasing such as “started at 0 in year 2000” and “reach at same place.” These errors sometimes make relationships between figures less clear. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build sentences around clear subjects and verbs, while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
